Alexa PenaVega believes it is critical for believers to fast and spend time with God.
“Ya’ll got to go fast because Jesus does not say if you fast. He says, ‘When you fast.’ So there’s this assumption that we are supposed to be fasting,” she explained. “Spiritually, we’ve got to be fasting.”
When PenaVega fasted with her husband, God revealed to her that He wants her to choose Him and spend time in the word instead of waiting for others to point her in that direction.
“Now I’m at another level with the Lord where He’s entered me into this season where I’m going to require a lot more of Him,” the SPY KIDS star said.
PenaVega and her husband, Carlos PenaVega, have built their relationship on faith.

“We were both trying to figure out what faith meant to each of us individually in the season that we met,” she recalled of the start of their relationship. “I was ready to dive in with God. I grew up Christian, but I didn’t quite understand what that meant.”
“I didn’t know what it truly meant to walk with God and represent him here on Earth. At the same time, Carlos was discovering who Jesus was in his life.”
They both had a hunger for spiritual growth.
“And that’s how our relationship started,” PenaVega explained. “And it was amazing because our entire relationship was based on bible studies, church and our faith.”
Carlos said, “We literally got to work on our relationship with God at the same time that we were working on our personal relationship with each other. Everything was founded in Christ which was so amazing.”
As soon as he felt a spark of faith, he became on fire for Christ.
“From then on it’s just like my heart was pierced and I was ready to go,” Carlos said. “And everything that we’ve done since then, my first instinct is like what would Jesus do? and is what I’m doing, is it for the kingdom?”
Both Alexa and Carlos are actors and try to choose projects that reflect their beliefs.
“We tend to work on projects that we are passionate about and align with our faith,” Alexa said. “I think the one thing that is kind of a struggle that we both faces is that a project won’t always a hundred percent align with our beliefs and truths. I think a lot of times it is very unrealistic to what actually goes on in a Christian household and in Christian lives because we are not perfect people.”
“We mess up, we fail daily and we are constantly trying to better ourselves. I feel like a lot of the Christian movies out there, they cater to the Christian audience but how do you make worldly content but with kingdom-hearted background?” she said. “So our goal is to one day create content for the world, but that comes from a kingdom-heart.”
They couple truly desire to be disciplined in their faith and follow God together. Their kids have great examples to look up to.
