This Insurance Company Cancels Super Bowl Ad to Focus on LA Fire Relief

Insurance agency State Farm has decided to cancel its plans for a Super Bowl ad to instead commit its time and money to the LA fires.
“State Farm, its agents, and employees are all focused on helping customers impacted by the Southern California wildfires in the midst of this tragedy,” a State Farm spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. “Our focus is firmly on providing support to the people of Los Angeles. We will not be advertising during the game as originally planned.”
This decision will allow the company to refocus millions of dollars towards the fires, rather than spending it on an ad slot. Last year, it cost $7 million to place a 30-second ad during the game, and with State Farm’s ad featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito, the total cost for its ad was likely north of $10 million. While the company did not publicly reveal its plan for this year’s ad, it would likely feature notable celebrities, again putting its price tag over $10 million.

Instead, the company is putting its efforts towards fire relief — a smart decision considering the fires have caused an estimated $250 billion in damage so far. State Farm is the largest property insurer in California, representing an 8.7% market share. Thus, it will shoulder the brunt of the costs for the fire, a duty it has already begun to take on.
“We are proud to report that our customer contact is at 90%,” State Farm said. “We’ve received over 7,400 home and auto claims, and we are putting tens of millions of dollars back into customers’ hands. These numbers will continue to rise as residents return and assess damage.”
The cancelation of State Farm’s Super Bowl ad is not the only impact the fires have had on the NFL. Last Monday, the LA Rams’ Wildcard game was relocated to Arizona for the safety of players and fans. Despite the last-minute change, the Rams ended up beating the Minnesota Vikings 27-9.
