A spokesperson for the Franklin Police Department has confirmed that Christian artist Mandisa’s recent death is being “actively investigated.”

Mandisa died on Thursday, April 18, at her home in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 47 years old.

“At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details,” a statement from a representative for the singer reads. “We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Franklin Police Department spokesperson Max Winitz confirmed to The Tennessean that “officers responded to a residence for a death investigation Thursday evening, and it’s being actively investigated.”

Per The Tennessean, “Franklin police declined to confirm [Mandisa] as the deceased in the death investigation, but the address of the home where the investigation is taking place has been tied to the singer via a records search.”

No other details have been released.

Mandisa rose to fame after competing on Season 5 of AMERICAN IDOL. She released her first album in 2007 and soon became one of the biggest names in Christian music. Mandisa earned a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in 2014 for “Overcomer.”

Fans and friends of Mandisa are reflecting on the singer’s legacy.

David Pierce, the chief media officer for Christian radio station KLOVE, wrote, “Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart.”

“Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles,” he continued. “Mandisa’s struggles are over, she is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the industry’s reaction to her passing:

“We lost a beautiful soul,” singer TobyMac said. “I have never met an artist who is more encouraging and supportive to other artists than Mandisa. She was honest and authentic but I always left her side feeling better. She watched every act, every night on every tour singing along with a smile that made you feel alive.”

“She was honest about her struggles and viewed her break throughs as an opportunity to let others know that they can experience victories just like her,” he added. “She saw us as a family. God’s family. In all our diversity. All flawed. And all in need of the love of a Good Father, a Heavenly Father.”

“Mandisa is the sweetest, kindest soul that @anniedixon__ and I have met on the road. After hearing she went to be with the Jesus last night I was reflecting this morning on the times we had together,” singer Colton Dixon posted. “What I remember most was her kindness and ministering spirit into both Annie and I.”

“Devastated to hear about the sudden loss of Mandisa,” Danny Gokey wrote. “Her joy was infectious & I loved her heart to encourage people on & off stage!  When I made my debut in Christian music she was my greatest supporter.”
