THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE to Stream on Netflix This December

THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE will be arriving on Netflix this Christmas season.

Variety reported that the film “will debut on the streaming service on Dec. 3, months after grossing $1.36 billion in global ticket sales. The animated adventure will still be available on Peacock, the platform owned by NBCUniversal, where it premiered in August. Universal struck a licensing deal to let MARIO play on Netflix, which has far more subscribers than Peacock.”
“With the holidays on the horizon, it’s the time of year when locking down titles of this sort is critical, given the promise of a huge surge in viewership. In 2022, family-friendly series and films were in the Top 10 TV or Film lists in 59 countries every week from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Throughout the same period, family-friendly films also made up at least three of the global Top 10 English Films each week,” Deadline wrote.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in April and quickly became a smash hit, surpassing $1 billion at the global box office,” IGN reported.
A synopsis of the film reads, “While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi. With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Mario taps into his own power.”
