TOY STORY 5 Lands FINDING NEMO Director

By Movieguide® Contributor

TOY STORY 5 is in the works. The hit ’90s Disney/Pixar film will live on for a fifth rendition showcasing some beloved characters.

Although not much information has yet been released, Pixar CCO Pete Docter shared some exclusive details while at the screening of INSIDE OUT 2, revealing that Andrew Stanton will direct TOY STORY 5.

Stanton is a legend in the Pixar universe. Previously, he was the director for WALL-E, FINDING NEMO and FINDING DORY. He wrote TOY STORY, TOY STORY 2, FINDING NEMO, WALL-E, A BUGS LIFE and MONSTERS INC.

Many of these movies won Teddy Awards® at the Movieguide® Awards Gala for their strong family content.

World of Reel reported that Stanton “took a break from animation and made 2012’s live-action JOHN CARTER, and he has the upcoming IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE set for release this fall. He’s also attached to direct two other sci-fi live-action features, CHAIRMAN SPACEMAN and REVOLVER.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the uplifting and wholesome content within the TOY STORY films:

The movies in the TOY STORY franchise have previously been honored with Movieguide® Awards. Each of them received high praise for their strong moral messages and their family-friendly nature. They all had strongly Biblical and Christian messaging.

“TOY STORY shows that friendship and forgiveness triumphs over jealousy, envy and adversity,” Movieguide® Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr said of the first iteration.

Unfortunately, the most recent spinoff, LIGHTYEAR, “chose to push an immoral agenda that threw the lessons of the original franchise out the window.” Movieguide® and those who value moral content hope that TOY STORY 5 will take note of LIGHTYEAR’s failings and focus instead on redemptive, moral themes.

Movieguide® gave TOY STORY 4 a +2 content rating. The review states:

TOY STORY 4 has some incredible pro-family, pro-redemption, pro-self-sacrifice messages, in a very exciting, entertaining story. The importance of toys taking care of children is stressed constantly, but there’s also the importance of maturing and finding real love with good positive, male/female monogamous relationships being the end result. Every character has a great character arc, with a couple characters experiencing an epiphany and being truly transformed. It would be hard to find a better story.
