Trace Adkins Gathers Country Music Superstars for New FOX Show

By Movieguide® Contributor

MONARCH just premiered, but the country drama is already making headlines. Star Trace Adkins recently spoke about his experience on the show, plus his favorite part of filming.

MONARCH stars Adkins and Susan Sarandon as the heads of country music family, the Romans. However, as new secrets come to light about their origins in the world of country music, the family works to protect their legacy.

The Movieguide® Awards performer has a long history of appearing in movies and on TV, but his part as Albie Roman is his first starring television role.

“He’s not very animated, and neither am I,” Adkins said of his character. “We say what we’ve gotta say, and don’t have to yell it … just kind of move through this life as softly and peacefully as they’ll allow us to, but when they don’t – we’ll do what we’ve gotta do.”

He recently shared that one of his favorite parts about working on MONARCH has been being able to bring legendary country music songs to new audiences.

“I never would have gone in the studio and covered [songs by Hank Williams and Merle Haggard], but it’s been a lot of fun being able to record as Albie,” he explained.

Another one of his favorite parts? Getting to work with his friends and family in the country music industry. Some of the confirmed guest stars include Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Shania Twain, and Tanya Tucker.

“It’s a lot of fun to be on this show and have all the musical guests come in,” Adkins said. “That’s a real treat for me.”

MONARCH airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox. Movieguide® has yet to review the show and cannot advise on its content.
