Wait…Dolly Parton Isn’t Sure if She’s Still a Country Artist?

The “Queen of Country” doesn’t know if she’s country anymore.

“I do so many things, sometimes I wonder if I’m still considered a country artist,” Dolly Parton said on CBS MORNINGS on Wednesday. “Although I’m a country girl…I’ve had the chance to do things like my rock album…movies…I wasn’t sure.”

Fox News said, “Parton’s comments came after Billboard ranked her the ‘number one country artist of all time.’”

Parton was “shocked” when she got the news. She didn’t know there was “such a category” or that she was listed on it. Nonetheless, she’s “very proud and honored more than anything.”

“I was surprised, but I was in company with Willie and Johnny Cash…Loretta Lynn and all those wonderful people,” she said.

“You always have to do that,” Parton said.

“Of course, I love family…especially I love being home for the holidays. And to my knowledge, I’ve never missed a Christmas. But I’ve missed Thanksgiving and a lot of other holidays,” she said.

“I try my best to be home for Christmas, but when you’re in show business you have to do [what] they call…It’s so important though, for the holidays…to be home with family and friends.”

That’s exactly what she plans to do this Christmas. She told E! News that Christmas is a “sacred time” for her to be around loved ones, especially her husband, Carl.

“I’m going to visit family and friends in East Tennessee,” she said. “And then I’ll be visiting Carl’s family some, and then we’ll just have all that food.”

Parton recently wrote a children’s book called “Billy the Kid Comes Home for Christmas.” A cartoon version of her own French bulldog is the star of the show as he tells Parton’s story of choosing between family and the spotlight.

“I think we’re one in the same,” Parton said about her dog, Billy the Kid. “I try to have a message for kids, you know, whether it’s about love, friendship, family.”

“And we’ll have a whole series of Billy books,” she said. “We’ve already had one, and it was about confidence and all that. But this is Christmas. I love Christmas, and I thought, well, Billy has to be part of my Christmas, since he is so much a part of me.”
