The HANNAH MONTANA 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL comes out today on Disney+, and here is what you can expect.
The special feature’s Miley Cyrus’ one-hour return to Hannah Montana’s home in Malibu, a reunion with cast and performances of old songs from the series.
“I didn’t want to do this modern approach to Hannah. I wanted to keep it preserved,” Cyrus told Variety. She said making the anniversary special “felt like home again.”
Selena Gomez surprised Cyrus during the special, and Cyrus did her hair Hannah Montana-style. No wig needed.
The special is hosted by Alex Cooper. Cyrus’ on screen and real-life dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, will join her for a conversation about their audition process, and Cyrus’ mom, Tish Cyrus, will also appear. And fans will get to see never-before-seen archival footage.

Variety reported that Disney recreated the sets of the iconic house for the special, and Tish pulled out outfits, fan letters and scrapbooks that she had saved in her archives.
“I didn’t think about the correlation between Hannah’s house in Malibu and my house in Malibu,” Cyrus said, “and my house burning down and me rebuilding.”
Naturally, Cyrus will recreate the Hannah hair flip and a her Disney wand commercial where she said, “Hey, I’m Miley Cyrus from HANNAH MONTANA, and you’re watching Disney Channel.”
Yahoo! Entertainment said Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, Jason Earles, Moisés Arias and Dolly Parton are all listed in the credits of the special, but it is unclear if they will appear in person or just in old clips.
Cyrus and Disney also revealed that the special will feature a new Hannah Montana song, which has the fans very excited.
“Hannah is back to top the charts AGAIN,” said one fan in the comments. Another said, “A new song by hannah????? this is insane.”
Cyrus said in a statement, “Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”
Last year, Cyrus revealed that she wanted to mark the anniversary in some special way, and now she gets to.
“I want to design something really, really special for it because it really was the beginning of all of this. Without Hannah, there wouldn’t really be this me,” she said.
Fans can stream the 20th anniversary special now on Disney+.
