What to Expect from NBC’s Upcoming MONK Movie Starring Tony Shalhoub

NBC just announced that a MONK movie is in development for their streaming service, Peacock.

MONK, a TV series about a detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder, premiered in 2002 and starred Tony Shalhoub. The actor is known for his roles in SPY KIDS, CARS and THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL.

In the new movie, titled MR. MONK’S LAST CASE, Shalhoub will reprise his role as Adrian Monk. The show’s creator, Andy Breckman, will write and executive produce the movie, while Randy Zisk, who directed 35 episodes, is set to direct it.

In addition to Shalhoub, cast members Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin and Héctor Elizondo will all reprise their roles.

“When creator Andy Breckman came to us with a new Monk case set in present day, we immediately fell in love with this story all over again,” said Michael Sluchan, the Executive Vice President of movies, kids and daytime at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

He continued, “The movie has the heart and humor of the original series with a contemporary relevance, and we’re overjoyed to work with the original creative team, including Andy, David Hoberman, Randy Zisk, the unparalleled Tony Shalhoub, and our partners at UCP, for what is sure to be a must-see movie event for Peacock audiences.”

MR. MONK’S LAST CASE will follow Monk as he tries to solve a case involving his stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.

“New and returning fans of MONK will love how this creative team was able to preserve all that we admire about Adrian Monk while bringing him into the present,” said UCP President Beatrice Springborn. “We can’t wait for Peacock viewers to experience this fresh, fun and imaginative film.”

NBC has yet to set a release date for MR. MONK’S LAST CASE.
