For Forrest Frank, performing a sold-out show at the Houston Rodeo is personal.

“This whole journey of making Christian music has just been so beyond me, so I can’t even really fathom anything, but that’s a pretty significant moment,” Forrest told KHOU 11 News. Just hours after tickets went on sale, the show sold out.

Houston is a special place for the viral Christian artist. His grandfather, Neil Frank, who died on Christmas Eve last year, called the Texas city his hometown.

“He was so proud not because of my success, but just because I spoke about Jesus,” Frank said of his late grandfather. “That’s really all he was excited about. And I know he was very proud, and it does feel very significant and kind of symbolic, if that’s the right word, that he just passed, and now this is all happening. So, going to have the whole family coming out, all the cousins and everybody, and we’re going to have a big celebration.”

On Christmas Eve, Frank announced the news of his grandfather’s death on Instagram.

“Today, my grandad went to be with Jesus. This was him watching a sermon he gave back in 1985. I used it as the intro for my album and tour,” he wrote over a video of his grandfather watching the intro to one of Frank’s shows. “I loved walking on stage after this because of what it meant: I am the product of prayers, promises and blessings. We named our new son after you, grandad. One day, I will get to see you again. Until then, I will spend my time doing what you did best, spreading the name of Jesus.”

Frank captioned the post with one sentence he believed his grandfather heard when he met God face to face: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

He and his wife Grace welcomed their second child, son Sonny Neil Frank, in December, shortly before his grandfather’s death.

Frank’s newest tour, “The Jesus Generation,” will begin in March in Houston, Texas. He will be joined by several other artists, including Tori Kelly, Cory Asbury, The Figs and other special guests at various stops.

It’s incredible to see Frank continue to live out his grandfather’s legacy of faith as the singer proclaims the name of Jesus to sold-out concerts and his millions of followers.
