Actor Josh Peck recently spoke about the power of prayer, and how God is always waiting for him when he strays from his faith.

“When I pray at night, I just get on my knees, because I humble myself to something bigger than me, and it’s like a physical reminder,” he said on an episode of “The George Janko Show” podcast.

Peck continued, “The beautiful part is, like, I’ll be on a great thing where I’m praying and mindful and doing, like, spiritual reading in the morning, and then I’ll just be like, ‘Nope,’ for a couple of weeks. Just like, ‘Don’t wanna. Lazy. Don’t wanna.’ And the beautiful thing is like, God’s just like, ‘Cool, see you soon! Whenever you want to come back, I’ll be right here.’”

“You’ll get driven to your knees real quick,” the actor joked.

Peck rose to fame as a child actor on Nickelodeon’s THE AMANDA SHOW and DRAKE & JOSH. His high-profile career led to substance abuse, but Peck got sober and recently celebrated 16 years of sobriety.

“To be able to have gotten out of it at 21, I feel grateful,” he recalled during an appearance on the “Cancelled with Tana Mongeau” podcast. “There were a lot of close calls. I just felt like a cliché. And I was breaking my mom’s heart.”

In an interview with PEOPLE, Peck said he was “always looking for something outside to fix my insides.”

“But eventually I realized that whether my life was beyond my wildest dreams or a total mess, it didn’t change the temperature of what was going on in my mind,” he continued. “I knew that nothing in the outside world would make me feel whole.”

Peck doesn’t regret the missteps he made in his youth but explained that it took “a really long time to love” his 15-year-old self.

“But now I understand how strong he was,” he concluded. “And I feel like everything in my life set me up to find this chapter of health, peace and contentment.”

Peck is about to enter into another exciting new chapter; he and wife Paige O’Brien Peck are about to welcome their third child! The couple are also parents to sons Max, 6, and Shai, 2.

“Amazing surprise,” he captioned an Instagram video of the couple holding a pregnancy test. In another post, the actor joked, “I finally get a minivan.”

After a years-long struggle with substance abuse and the other pitfalls that can come from young stardom, Peck has finally found contentment in both faith and family.
