Why Kellan, Brittany Lutz Left California: ‘Doing It For Our Kids’

By Movieguide® Contributor

TWILIGHT star Kellan Lutz is opening up about his family’s decision to leave Hollywood for Nashville.

“We’re doing it for our kids,” he told Fox News.

Lutz and wife Brittany share daughter Ashtyn, 2, and son Kasen, 1.

“The way the industry is right now, currently I can work and live wherever and then just fly to do movies. And at least my wife has a support system here when I’m gone,” the actor continued.

Having Brittany’s extended family in the area reminds Lutz of his own time with family.

“I remember growing up, my family had a farm in Iowa, and I saw my grandparents, and it was the best time. We spent a month or so on the farm. Cows, pigs, everything. But it’s fleeting. People aren’t living as long,” he shared.

“You only have so much time with your grandparents,” Lutz continued. “And we live a mile from my wife’s parents, and so we walk there. It’s just beautiful.”

In a separate interview with Fox News, Lutz called leaving his family for work “the hardest thing.”

“I go away to do movies and then my wife gets in such an amazing routine with the kids,” he explained. “And then I come home, or I come back for 24 hours because I fly back on my day off, and it kind of throws her out of whack.”

He continued, “She loves it, but it also messes up what takes a couple of days to form. And so, I think that’s the hardest thing. But it’s again, she wouldn’t change it for the world. And I want to see my kids. And she loves having me there.”

The DUE JUSTICE star spoke further about the decision to move to Nashville in an interview with UPI.

“I’m a family man, and I want my daughter to have the most amazing memories with the family, especially the older ones, while they’re still alive,” Lutz said.

As for any missed opportunities that might come from not being based in LA — “I know I’ll always work and God will provide,” Lutz said. “And he has.”

Lutz isn’t the only celebrity who has left Hollywood for a quieter life in Tennessee. Movieguide® previously reported:

Danica McKellar is one of many stars who have chosen to leave Hollywood. The actress recently revealed that she and her family have settled in rural Tennessee.

“My husband and I have been wanting more nature for a long time. We were kind of ready to not be in a city anymore,” she explained. McKellar, her husband Scott, her son Draco, and her mother have all moved to a town about an hour outside of Nashville.

She originally decided on Tennessee after filming a movie there. McKellar also said that the music and creative scene of Nashville attracted her to the area.
