Former NFL Star Reminds Us to Talk About God’s Goodness — Here’s Why

Former NFL running back Matt Forte knows the most important thing in this chaotic world is telling others about God’s goodness, and we should be willing to do that no matter the situation.
“You never know what somebody’s going through. You can be in a coffee line at Starbucks or somewhere and just spark up a conversation with someone,” Forte said on the “Jesus Calling” podcast. “It’s always good to be able to be available to share how good God has been in your life and to tangibly realize that and recognize that. Because if someone’s going through a tough time, they may not see how God has worked in the mundane things in their lives of just waking you up and you having a bed to sleep in or having food on a table to eat.”
“And so I think it’s very important for us to exemplify that in its most authentic way, because had it not been for Jesus coming down and dying for our sins and living a sinless life and paying the debt for what we’ve accumulated, there would be no hope,” he continued. “And in return, we have to reflect the hope that He’s given us.”
One way Forte shares the hope he has is through social media. He recently posted a video and two photos of when he was in the NFL.
“Game day… but life ain’t a game! ALL glory and Honor goes to Jesus,” he wrote in the caption. “The source of my life, the source of my strength, the source of my peace and most importantly the source of my salvation!”
The athlete retired from the NFL in 2018 after 10 seasons in the league.
“For the past 10 years, I’ve been blessed to play professionally a game that I’ve loved since I was 6 years old,” Forte said at the time. “But after much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided to retire from the NFL.”
“Forte’s 9,796 yards rushing rank him 33rd on the NFL’s career list. He also had 554 receptions, including setting the league record for running backs with 102 catches in 2014,” AP News reported.
He keeps using his platform to point others to God. His most recent project, a children’s book called My Hair Can, reminds kids that God designed them uniquely. Movieguide® reported:
“I am so excited and extremely blessed to be able to use the platform God has given me to share this book with you all,” he expressed on his social media. “I hope every child that reads ‘My Hair Can’ or has it read to them looks in the mirror and Loves the unique way in which God has created them.
“My hope is that they would see the value and validation they possess being that they are created in Gods very image and likeness, so that they can be a light to others in a dark world,” he added. “In order to Love others authentically we must first learn to Love ourselves because when we value and respect ourselves we respect and see the value in others.”
