Why Matthew West Prays for His Daughters
By Movieguide® Contributor
Matthew West shared the impact he hopes to make by consistently praying for his daughters.
“I want my daughters to say they knew their mom and dad were lifting them up and praying for them constantly, just like I know. Like every night before I walk on stage, I get a text from my mom, and it’s a prayer from my mom,” the singer told TBN. “Not only that, but she’s the one who said to me, she said, ‘I’ve been praying, and I feel like the Lord showed me that someday you’re not just going to be writing songs, but you’re gonna be writing books to tell people about Jesus.’ And all these years I used to laugh at that, going, ‘You’re crazy.’ Seven books later, I learned that I should never underestimate what the Lord puts on my mom’s heart.”
His latest book, “Come Home for Christmas,” is all about rediscovering the wonder of Christ’s birth.
“Matthew West’s humor, Bible-teaching, and storytelling challenge us to embrace this season of Christmas as the homecoming that God intends for it to be,” a synopsis reads.
West has long been open about fatherhood and the ways he keeps his daughters at the center of his life. Despite his fame, he has always made time for his family. Earlier this year, his oldest daughter turned 18, and West wrote a song commemorating the milestone.

“I talk a lot about the power of story, but this song is literally written in real-time in the exact chapter of the story that our family is in right now,” West told Women’s World. “It’s graduation time. My oldest daughter is getting ready to graduate from high school, and my wife and I are both just in our feelings about that.”
“We’re dealing with all the heart feelings and emotions of, like, ‘Wow! How fast did it go? This is unbelievable.’ We just had her graduation party last night. We’re cleaning up after the party today—I can’t believe how fast it’s gone,” he added.
West has also shared how he is proud of the strong faith that his daughters hold. Their relationship with the Lord is real, and that is the thing the singer is most grateful for.
