Why This SMART GUY Actor Makes God the Center of His Life

Actor Tahj Mowry opened up on the “Jesus Calling” podcast about his faith and its impact on his time in the entertainment industry.

Mowry is the brother of twin sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry, who also rose to fame in Hollywood. Mowry shared that growing up, his childhood generally looked normal despite his acting career.

“My childhood was normal for me because it’s all I knew,” he explained. “I think my parents helped out with that a lot because they still had me going to public schools, and I was playing sports all throughout my childhood, even while I was acting. I would leave the set and then go right to football practice or track practice or things like that. So they kept me very grounded in that aspect.”

He went on to take part in several shows including KIM POSSIBLE, SMART GUY and FULL HOUSE. Through his success, bringing joy to others is what motivates him the most.

“That’s one of the reasons why I do what I do, to make people smile, to make people feel, to make people see themselves in me. And that’s beautiful. That’s one of the most beautiful parts of my job,” he said.

Mowry also reflected on his relationship with Jesus.

“One of the ways I love to share how I live my life, my beliefs, what keeps me going, what gives me hope and peace and joy in God — Jesus is the Prince of Peace, so I find my peace and my joy and my happiness in Him.”

He shared how surrendering daily and keeping God at the center is at the heart of all he does.

“If something amazing happens to you and you’re all about God in that moment, ‘Yeah, God! Thank you. My dream came true.’ But then when the big moments don’t happen, are you still thankful? Are you still surrendering? Are you still joyful beyond your circumstances? So I think it’s important to wake up with the decision to surrender your all to the living Christ. And from that, you’ll be more prepared for those bigger moments later on.”

Mowry concluded by sharing the importance of prayer in his life.

“Prayer, for me, is something that I want to always do more of. And I think beginning your day in a state of knowing who’s in control — which is not us — is the key to starting off our day properly,” he said. “We did not wake up on our own accord. We are not breathing on our own accord. Our hearts are not beating on our own accord. There is someone in full control and orchestration of every part of our bodies and beings and the universe, and that is God Almighty. And realizing and choosing to dive into that every day is the key to a peaceful, joyful life.”

Mowry took to his Instagram recently to encourage his followers. A photo carousel shows Mowry holding a poster that reads, “Jesus Gave All. All of life, all for Jesus.”

The actor wants God to rule his life.

“My main goal in this new year is to allow God to rule more and more in every area of my life and more specifically, in all the little moments that lead up to the big ones,” he wrote on Jan. 1. “I want to wake up each day committed to live in those small moments with open eyes and a humble and expectant heart.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Tahj’s sister, Tamera:

Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley just shared the hilarious difference between her and her husband’s music choices.

“Mom’s car karaoke vs. Dad’s dance party — a tale of two rides!” she captioned an Instagram video of the couple in the car with their children.

The first clip shows Mowry-Housley at the wheel. She and her two kids — Aden, 10, and Ariah, 8 — sing along to a contemporary Christian song. The next clip has husband Adam Housley in the driver’s seat and the car’s occupants rocking out to Usher.

“When I’m driving, we’re all about those soulful, harmonious moments. But when it’s Adam’s turn? It’s a full-blown car concert with all the rap, rock, country, pop classics!” Mowry’s caption continued. “The kiddos totally called it, knowing exactly which song would be mommy’s pick, and their excitement level…well, it skyrocketed when dad took the wheel!”
