Why Willie Robertson’s On Fire for the Gospel
By Movieguide® Contributor
DUCK DYNASTY’s Willie Robertson shared why he has made it his life’s mission to share the Gospel with as many people as possible.
“I was just thinking, what if my dad had not been converted?…The only thing left to change the day was the Gospel and literally changing his life and being converted…” Robertson told Matthew West while explaining the motivation behind his new book. “What if he hadn’t have come to the Lord? I would have grown up with a single mom, who knows, like, I don’t even know if I would be a Christian.”
“I wouldn’t have gone to church. I wouldn’t have gone to youth camp, which is where I met Korie. It just changed everything in life, and if you go forward, like, you know, 50 years later, think about DUCK DYNASTY, the impact that it had, the prayer at the end, the podcasts that have come out, Sadie, and all the work that she’s done, the movies, the books. Man, hundreds of millions of people all over the world have been exposed to the Gospel, and I can trace that back to that couple in south Arkansas with no money, nobody knew who they were, their marriage was over, and the Gospel came in,” he continued.
“And if it would have just affected our lives, it would have been fine. We would have been the happiest we could have been,” Robertson added. “But God had so much more planned out for us. So, when I look back, Matthew, I think about how appreciative I am, but looking forward, I think, ‘Who is it that I could tell the Gospel to that could literally change their marriage? Their life? Their kids? Their grandkids?’ Generational change.”
To reach as many people as he can with his story, while also equipping others to share the Gospel well, Robertson recently released a book, “Gospeler,” which encourages people to share the word of God, regardless of their background. The project, also helped Robertson reconnect with his roots and refocus himself on what truly matters.
“Even before I was married I was preaching the Gospel to people and have had such a love for it,” he said. “It’s kinda like an art form, and so being able to put all these stories down, even if no one bought it, just to have for my kids and people I know, I just wanted to capture these stories I didn’t want them to be forgotten.”
“All the stories that I tell and they just really key in, kinda how I see it, on the New Testament, and I felt like God had a message for me to say,” Robertson continued, “and I don’t, you know, I don’t use that lightly, I don’t even use that language often but I really did feel like God had a specific message He really did want me to put out at this time.”
“Gospeler” is available now.

Willie Robertson sat down with his daughter Sadie Robertson Huff to discuss his new book, “Gospeler,” which explains why Christians need to share their faith and helps them understand how to do it.
“I think a lot of people come to faith, and I think later on, they’d be like, I didn’t know [sharing my faith] was part of the deal. I didn’t know I was supposed to tell anyone about it,” Robertson told Huff. “I kind of make the case that, what if it’s the whole deal? The whole deal is about giving it away; it’s about telling others.”
“And so, in the book, I start building out this premise of where this comes from…I’m really interested once Jesus has come back from the dead, he’s only here for a few weeks, and what does he tell people to do? Like…here’s what needs to happen,” he continued. “So, we can clue in right there, you can clue into a couple of things but especially what you may know as the Great Commission at the end of Matthew 28: ‘All authority has been given to me.’ And he says three things there. He says, ‘Go make disciples, baptize people and teach people.’”
“So those are three specific things,” Robertson added. “He doesn’t say, ‘Go to church and be a good person…’ He says to go be active, and those are the three things. And so, what I found was in my life if I’m not around any of those three things, then maybe I’m on the wrong mission…maybe my mission is wrong. So I feel like I’ve run into a lot of believers who, they just don’t have the right mission…[And they feel like,] I need something…and I really believe it’s because they’re not going back to what Jesus said this is your mission.”
