Zach and Tori Roloff See ‘The Grace of God’ in Their Kids
By Movieguide® Contributor
Zach and Tori Roloff are responding to comments about their children’s dwarfism.
“We have three children that have dwarfism that we chose to bring into this world. And I can’t imagine in what world you live in that you can look at our three kids and be like, ‘Yeah, that wasn’t supposed to happen,’” Tori said. “I cannot look at my kids and see anything but the grace of God and the love of Jesus.”
Zach jumped in, saying, “Comments will say, like, ‘Why would you bring, you know, kids with dwarfism in? They’re going to get ridiculed.’ And it’s like, well, hold on. That’s not my problem. And that’s not [my kids’] problem. That’s those people’s problems. You know, that’s like, ‘I’m not going to bring someone into this world because of how society is going to’ — no, then that’s a society, educational — society needs to change.”
“That’s madness to me,” Tori continued. “They’re miracles. They’re blessings. They are my life, even when parenting is hard. And even when I feel drained, I still, at the end of the day, look at my kids and just go, ‘Thank you, Lord, for giving me this life, giving me this family, and allowing us to do what we do.’”
The couple spoke further about their decision to have their kids, even though there was a “50-50” chance they would have dwarfism.
“It’s very loud, and it’s very hard to ignore when people question our decision to have children when we knew that they could have dwarfism,” Tori shared on their podcast. “And we knew pretty strongly that [the children] could [have it].”
The couple said that, while people are always looking for a “perfect child” and want to “make sure that their kid doesn’t have x, y and z” problems, at the end of the day, it’s “in God’s hands.”
In an Instagram Q&A from 2022, Tori was asked if she ever wishes she had “the opportunity to know what it’s like to raise an average size child.”
“Absolutely not,” Tori responded. “I’m Obsessed with the three kids God gave me and I’d have it no other way.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the Roloffs’ parenting style:
Zach and Tori Roloff are reminding parents to “find the goodness” in life.
“I really try hard to bring into our parenting—the idea that ‘You don’t have to, you get to,’” Tori explained in an episode of their podcast. “I think that’s something we use in our parenting all the time because I think that’s really important….going out to dinner; you don’t have to go out to dinner, you get to be at a table with your family, and you get to talk and interact with one another.”
She continued, “You have to find the goodness in those things to enjoy life more.”
The couple then shared some words of wisdom for other parents who are struggling with different aspects of parenting.
“If you take anything away from this podcast…if you’re wanting to be on this journey of better parenting, just like we are, I think that being reflective with your spouse is the number one way to do it,” Tori said. “If you and your spouse are on the same page with parenting, you’re already on the right path to being better.”
