SHAZAM! Star Shares How He Stays Close to God

By Movieguide® Contributor

Zachary Levi and Andrew Erwin recently spoke about how God’s hand guided their latest collaboration, THE UNBREAKABLE BOY.

Levi and Erwin are longtime friends, initially bonding over their dedication to their faith and infusing it into their work in the entertainment industry.

“It was really cool to know that you and your brother were out there attempting to make films for people that identified as Christian,” Levi said

The pair had started pre-production on AMERICAN UNDERDOG when Lionsgate told them that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the studio could no longer fund the movie and was halting production. Instead, they offered them “a handful of movies” that they were willing to fund, and one was THE UNBREAKABLE BOY.

A description of THE UNBREAKABLE BOY reads, “A young boy [is born] with both a rare brittle-bone disease and autism. But what makes him truly unique is his joyous, funny, life-affirming world view that transforms and unites everyone around him.”

“We were able to gather this wonderful cast of actors and crew, and Lionsgate said, ‘Let’s go make this little movie,’” Levi explained. “And we did it, and God did it.”

The SHAZAM! star emphasized the movie’s “wonderful story [and] wonderful message,” adding, “I’m so grateful that UNBREAKABLE BOY is finally going to get a release.”

Movieguide® previously reported on THE UNBREAKABLE BOY’s release date:

Kingdom Story Company’s THE UNBREAKABLE BOY just received its official release date: February 21, 2025.

A true story, THE UNBREAKABLE BOY is based on a book of the same name, written by Scott LeRette and Susy Flory.

“People want and need good, real, and meaningful stories,” LeRette said in a post to the book’s website. “Our story, I hope, is a story for the masses…one that will make you think, cry, laugh, hurt, and love all at the same time.”

The Erwin Brothers, who head Kingdom Story Company, called the movie “a funny and inspiring true story of a young couple stumbling through parenthood, who finds constant inspiration from the joy and optimism of their spectacularly unique son.”

Levi also spoke about how he leans on his faith, saying, “I am daily trying to always live in a state of humility, gratitude and trust…they’ve helped me stay on the tightest frequency to God.”

“If you’re humble to this, grateful to this and trusting to this, the Great Almighty I Am, then you can flow with the Great Almighty I Am,” he concluded.

Levi frequently talks about his faith and how it has encouraged him to continue working as an actor.

“I’ve always had a really strong portion of faith ever since I was a little kid,” he told Patheos. “I could feel in my bones that there is a God and that God loves me, and there’s purpose, my life can have purpose. When you look at it, just from a number’s perspective, very few people get to have a dream when they’re four, and still get to live that dream when they’re, you know, 40.”
