101 DALMATIANS pushes all the right emotional buttons while upholding marriage and the sanctity of human life, as well as a high regard for animal life. Set in London, 101 DALMATIANS tells a familiar story, about two well-rounded singles who get together through their Dalmatians, only to have them stolen by Cruella DeVil. With some mild slapstick violence, it is a movie the whole family can enjoy…
NATIONAL TREASURE is a rollicking, witty adventure mystery starring Nicolas Cage as a contemporary Indiana Jones hero hunting clues to a treasure hidden for hundreds of years. Although it shows a couple Masonic symbols that help locate the treasure, the movie is not occult or anti-Christian, but is a family-friendly entertainment that honors early American history, the Founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence, and ideals such as liberty, traditional family values, bravery, honor, patriotism, loyalty, and justice…
MIRACLE is a splendid, inspirational re-telling of the U.S. hockey team’s hard-earned road to victory play at the 1980 Olympic games in Lake Placid, New York. Though it contains some light obscenities, it is a fine, entertaining, and positive movie which shows that the success of the 1980 hockey team was not just some fluke or happy coincidence, but was the result of hard work, persistence, and detailed preparation…
THE KING’S SPEECH is a period drama about the attempt to cure the British king’s terrible stuttering problem during World War II. Everyone, including Albert’s wife, Elizabeth, tries to help him get over it, but nothing works. Then, Elizabeth finds an unconventional Australian speech therapist, Lionel Logue, who offers to help the Duke, but only if the Duke will place himself entirely in Lionel’s hands. Regrettably, the movie also contains lots of strong foul language when the therapist urges the king to say bad words to cure his problem. Thus, extreme caution is warranted.
Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok (6/5)
THOR: RAGNAROK, the third Thor movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shows Thor trying to save his home Asgard, from its impending total destruction, as foretold in prophecies. THOR: RAGNAROK is an extremely funny, exciting Marvel movie with strong moral elements extolling family and sacrifice, but some foul language, violence and pagan content warrant caution for older children…
Walt Disney Pictures’ TARZAN is the first animated feature to focus on the legendary jungle hero. Using a “deep canvas,” 3-D effect where Tarzan swings, skids and flips through the jungle as the camera zooms in and around the landscape, this mostly moral story has some mild action violence and some political correctness which calls for parents to spend a media-wise moment with their children if they allow their children see it…
New on Hulu:
A BEAUTIFUL MIND tells the story of Dr. John Nash, diagnosed as a paranoid-schizophrenic, who goes on to win a Nobel Prize for his work on game theory. Masterfully directed and well acted, this movie compellingly portrays the journey every person must take in the dark valley of conformity to find God’s purposes for their life…
Apollo 13 is a patriot can-do America movie that will probably hit a strong emotional nerve at the box office. It tells the familiar story to those of us who lived through that period of the ill fated flight of Apollo 13 which blew out most of its oxygen in space halfway between the earth and the moon and barely made it back to earth. If it were not for the obscenities, profanities and noticeable lack of prayer, it would be a movie that every moral American would love…
I AM DAVID follows the riveting journey of a 12-year-old boy who escapes from a Communist death camp in 1952 Bulgaria. I AM DAVID is a heartwarming story that challenges us to see goodness in people and even in a few unexpected places…
THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, part one of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, opens in a small village in the Shire in Middle Earth, where a young Hobbit named Frodo has been entrusted with an ancient evil ring and must embark on an Epic quest to the Crack of Doom to destroy it. With dazzling effects and a great moral story, Part One of THE LORD OF THE RINGS is a must for fantasy fans, with a caution to parents of older children for strong sword-type violence and a brief occult element not in the book…
THE PROMISE is a surprisingly fascinating depiction of Turkey’s genocide against Armenian Christians in 1914-15, focusing on an Armenian medical student whose studies are interrupted by the outbreak of World War I. THE PROMISE is a very powerful historical epic because it keeps surprising the audience with new twists, turns and intensified jeopardy, but there is a regrettable bedroom scene and plenty of intense wartime violence…
New on Amazon Prime:
AUGUST RUSH is an inspiring movie about a gifted boy who believes he can find his parents through music. The movie is redemptive, glorifies God as the giver of great talent and presents a pastor as one of the heroes, but it does open with a child being born to an unwed couple…
NACHO LIBRE stars Jack Black as Ignacio, an orphaned boy in a Mexican monastery who dreams of glory in the wrestling ring but is convinced by the monks to become a monk. This is not a movie for everyone, though Jack Black is very funny at times. The movie flirts with sacrilege and an unrequited romance with a young nun, but it also contains strong Christian content and moral elements that appear to overcome the negative aspects…
