A NEWPORT CHRISTMAS is a fun holiday romance with a time-travel twist. The movie makes good use of the time-travel plot, with plenty of funny jokes, and the romantic plot line is very sweet, as the leads, Ginna Claire Mason and Wes Brown, have good chemistry.
In 1905, Newport, Ella longs for a more meaningful life. She and her father are wealthy, but Ella wants to use that wealth to open a charity in town to help others, rather than get married as her father wants. During a nighttime sail, Ella wishes for a different life — and someone to fall in love with — on a passing comet and is surprised to see a man suddenly appear in her boat. Nick, a modern-day historian and sailor, is just as shocked to see Ella. Once they get back on land, Nick realizes that Ella is from 1905 and is actually a well-known historical figure in 2025. While the wonders of the modern age enchant Ella, Nick urges her to return to her own time, as the changes she makes ripple into the future, namely, the many charitable works she undertook.
Ella struggles to decide whether to return to the past and do the good deeds she’s supposed to, or to stay in the future with Nick, who she’s beginning to have feelings for.
