In the opening episode, Mater tells Lightning McQueen and their friends in Radiator Springs that he’s going “back east” to attend his daughter’s wedding. Mater says he’s not looking forward to the trip because he and his sister don’t get along. So, Lightning offers to go with him. He suggests they ride in comfort in Mack’s fancy trailer, but Mater says, “That ain’t no road trip. We got to drive it together!”
