More Detail:
In Season Two, COUNTY RESCUE picks up shortly after the surprise twists of Season One. In the first two episodes of Season Two, Dani Miller and the rest of the EMT’s figure out life and faith. If there is a comparison for this show, it would be combining the movie GOD’S NOT DEAD alongside the medical ideas of programs like the classic series EMERGENCY! and today’s incarnation, CHICAGO FIRE. The series continues its worldview of relying on God even in the toughest of times. This gets demonstrated fully within the first two episodes of Season 2, especially the second episode.
In the first episode, Dani has a run in with her ex-fiancé, Hunter. Hunter has recently taken up a position at the county hospital as an Emergency Room Surgeon. Dani then reveals why she broke her engagement off with Hunter, being that his faith in her abilities, or rather his lack thereof, was the source of her leaving him. Hunter thought that, since she failed medical school, that she wouldn’t make it as an EMT, but she proved him wrong in Season One.
On top of that, after the flood that occurs in Season One, the EMT team finds themselves with a new station but an old coffee machine. Tim still finds himself in the friend zone when it comes to Dani, because he still has yet to reveal how he truly feels about her. However, 10-year EMT veteran, Duke, is doing well with his rehab after his issues with alcohol in Season One. He no longer feels the need to drink and is even comfortable when drinks are served at a party. Dani worries that, when Duke returns in two month, the Chief will have to let her go.
Episode 1 of Season Two ends with a sudden medical emergency at the restaurant where Dani’s friend Griffin works. Griffin’s training as an EMT before the Chief picked Tim as the new rookie comes in handy.
Episode 2 is titled “Hummingbird.” It opens with Dani trying to balance her shifts as an EMT and being in the hospital for her dad, who suffered a heart attack at the end of Episode 1. During this time, the rest of the EMT team tries to be as supportive of her and her family as possible. They do everything from giving meals, to some fun pranks, to just spending time with Dani to make sure things are okay.
Dani also takes this time to really thank Griffin for saving her father. Meanwhile, Tim gets some much needed advice on women from veteran EMT man, Andy. The episode ends with Andy’s wife, Ashley, getting some news that will change their lives. Is Ashley pregnant?
The second episode of COUNTY RESCUE: Season Two is better overall than the first episode. The first episode has some slow spots in the middle, with some stiff acting, and the dialogue in Episode 2 is more captivating and compelling. Both episodes could use more jeopardy, however. With stronger jeopardy, the episodes would pack a stronger emotional punch. That said, the medical emergency that closes Episode 1 is the most powerful scene in both episodes.
The first two episodes of COUNTY RESCUE: Season Two have some fantastic wholesome messages. The central theme in the series still permeates, with Dani fully relying on God even when she doesn’t know where God is taking her. Also, despite not seeing eye to eye always with her family, the series still portrays her as a dutiful daughter, helping her family when her father ends up in the hospital. There’s also a heartwarming scene where Dani tells her friend, Griffin that the strength he sees in her comes from her faith in God. He’s also impressed that her strength comes because she lets God carry the weight of her responsibilities as a family member and as a first responder. Finally, there’s another heartwarming scene where Andy notices that Tim is struggling when it comes to his romantic feelings toward Dani. Essentially, Andy tells Tim he’s trying too hard. He tells Tim that he unexpectedly found his wife, Ashley, when he relaxed, started attending church, and focused on helping others. This led him to become an EMT, where he met Ashley. Thus, both Episode 1 and 2 of COUNTY RESCUE: Season Two have a strong Christian, moral worldview. They stress reliance on God, promote family and marriage, and support having a good work ethic.
COUNTY RESCUE continues to be a wholesome series with positive, inspiring values, though the program could use a little improvement in its writing and execution. Perhaps a higher budget would help.
