HOLLYWOOD TAKEOVER: CHINA’S CONTROL IN THE FIM INDUSTRY is an important documentary on Epoch TV about the history of how the Chinese Communist Party in recent years seduced Hollywood movie executives and movie financiers to help the Party infiltrate the American film industry so that they could gain access to China’s lucrative theatrical movie box office. HOLLYWOOD TAKEOVER is an eye-opening movie exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to use the American Entertainment Industry to subvert liberty and establish global dominance, but it also shows that some people in the Entertainment Industry, in the media, in China, and in America have begun fighting back.

The movie is told partly from the perspective of Chris Fenton, a former talent agent who became a Hollywood production executive and producer. Fenton says he became interested in taking advantage of the Chinese market. So, he joined DMG Entertainment, a movie company specializing in making movie deals with China. The high point of Fenton and DMG’s collaboration with China were the hit movies LOOPER and IRON MAN 3. The content in both movies was changed to make China look good, Fenton says. He adds that on IRON MAN 3, DMG, Marvel Studios and Disney even scripted things for the movie’s star, Robert Downey, Jr., to say when he visited China to promote the movie. For example, one of the clips from the visit shows Downey praising China’s “system” of government, which, as everyone knows, is a communist tyranny run by the Chinese Communist Party.

Fenton says that, at the time, he thought that the positive relationships between Hollywood film companies like DMG and China would “spread the aspirational quality of democracy into a communist country, maybe someday changing them into more of a democracy like ours.” Instead, he (and others) found that the Chinese Communist Party just used their economic leverage to benefit the Party’s long-term schemes to undermine America and establish global dominance. Within those schemes were attempts to prevent people around the world from knowing about the Party’s horrible human rights record in the past and the present.

HOLLYWOOD TAKEOVER includes other examples of the Party influencing other movie projects, including scaring away Hollywood studios and movie financiers away from projects that are critical of Communist China. For example, documentary filmmaker Kay Rubacek says her documentary FINDING COURAGE had trouble getting distribution. Also, actor and filmmaker Nick Searcy says he had to shelve one of his movie projects because people who could finance the movie were afraid of getting canceled in China and around the world by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) if they helped fund that movie. HOLLYWOOD TAKEOVER also cites instances where the CCP banned movies starring Brad Pitt because he took part in a Pro-Tibet movie released in 1997.

Another major part of the movie is Tiffany Meier of CHINA IN FOCUS, a television news program on YouTube founded by NTD, a global TV network founded in 2001 by Chinese Americans who fled communism. Tiffany interviews some of the people appearing in HOLLYWOOD TAKEOVER. She says the Chinese Communist Party has been infiltrating not just movies but every aspect of life, changing the way people view reality and the world, including the way they view China and America.

Actor Kevin Sorbo and his wife, Sam, say the increasing influence of Communist China in Hollywood and around the world has been scary. Sam says parents need to homeschool their children so they can ensure their children know the truth about American history and can defend the values that made American such a beacon of liberty.

HOLLYWOOD TAKEOVER is an eye-opening movie exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to use the American Entertainment Industry to undermine America, subvert liberty and establish global dominance. However, it also shows that some people in the Entertainment Industry, in the media, in China, and in America have begun fighting back. For example, some people in Congress are trying to stop the Chinese Communist Party’s infiltration in the mass media, including Hollywood and social media. Also, the filmmakers behind the hit movie TOP GUN: MAVERICK refused to take off the Tawainese flag from the back of the title character’s famous pilot’s jacket, so the CCP banned the movie in China.

The question is, are these efforts too little, too late?
