(B, C, L, V, Ab) A true story of prayer, faith and self-reliance triumphing over the harshest adversity imaginable marred by 5 obscenities, 2 profanities and cannibalism.

More Detail:

A true survival story, complete with heroism, prayer and conversion, ALIVE tells about the plane full of Uraguayan rugby players, who crashed in the Andes on October 13, 1972. ALIVE opens with one survivor reflecting that his time of trial high atop the mountains took him to a spiritual plane where he met “the God who is hidden”–the sovereign Creator. At first, hopes for rescue are high, but then, on the eighth day, the group learns via radio, that search operations have been abandoned. Soon, they decide to eat their dead comrades to survive after someone points out that Christians believe that the soul leaves the body when a person dies. After exhausting all possibilities, two embark on a treacherous journey over the Andes to reach Chili and come back with helicopters to rescue the others–70 days after the plane crash.

ALIVE is an excruciating but extremely well-directed film, which captures the essence of the ordeal faced by the survivors of this catastrophe. Cannibalism is not the focus of the film, rather faith in a living God versus religious ritual is. As the Scripture intones: “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).
