BAD BOYS

Wise-cracking jokes, skin-tight dresses and raucous action abound as Martin Lawrence and Will Smith star as two hot-shot Miami cops out to recover a hundred million dollars worth of heroin stolen from right under the secure noses of police in the action-comedy BAD BOYS. With Internal Affairs breathing down their necks, believing the easy heist must have been an inside job, the entire drug enforcement unit is feeling the heat. To make matters worse, their only witness to a murder committed by the thieves believes Smith is Lawrence and Lawrence is Smith. Not a complicated plot twist, but it will have to do.
Action mixed with humor is the formula for BAD BOYS, and it succeeds on the surface, the action being big and loud, Lawrence and Smith being fairly funny and the storyline easily navigable with little concentration required. Those looking for depth or intrigue may be sorely disappointed. Acting performances are adequate from the two leads, with the rest of the cast offering nothing noteworthy. Numerous women in tight, short skirts and cut-off tops promote the adage that yes, real-life prostitutes look just like cover-girl, swimsuit models! Besides a few good comic lines, violence and blood are the main fare. Good photography helps the movie’s looks but cannot compensate for the hundreds of offensive obscenities and profanities in BAD BOYS.
