BULLETPROOF HEART tells the story of a cold-blooded hit man, Mick, whose friend and fellow hitman, George, asks for a favor: he wants Mick to kill a woman, but offers no reason why. George evades Mick’s questions and says only that the situation is complicated and that the woman knows someone is coming to kill her will not put up a fight. Upon meeting her, Mick quickly becomes sexually involved with the intended victim, Fiona, and cannot bring himself to kill her. Through a rather disjointed series of events, Mick learns that Fiona suffers from an unspecified and incurable disease, wants to die and has arranged for her own death. While Mick argues about the moral implications of killing this particular woman, the issue is settled for them when Archie kills her in an effort to impress Mick.
Good production qualities and good acting performances cannot compensate for this fruitless movie. Although Mick grows somewhat reluctant about his killing ways, the movie makes no effort to indicate that any real change will occur in his life. BULLETPROOF HEART simply has no moral, philosophical or entertainment value and features foul language, brutal violence and graphic sexual intercourse. The movie’s ultimate message is the philosophy of the hitmen: life is unimportant, and it matters very little if one person is removed from the earth.
