CROOKED HOUSE is a murder mystery full of quick wit and whodunit suspense. A tycoon is killed in his mansion and his family members are suspects. Sophia, the tycoon’s granddaughter and heiress, hires her former lover, Detective Charles Hayward, to investigate the murder quietly before involving Scotland Yard. As Charles interviews the family during his investigation, they all have motives. At times, money has nothing to do with it. In other cases, money has everything to do with it. In the end, Charles is shocked with a discovery that leads him on a race against time before another family member is killed.
Actress Glenn Close gives a notable performance in CROOKED HOUSE as the clever sister-in-law to the murdered tycoon. The movie’s opening scene engages the audience from the start. It creates a feeling of secrecy and uncertainty that’s an ongoing theme throughout the story. CROOKED has a light Christian worldview where a character sacrifices everything to protect others. When tycoon Aristide Leonides (Gino Picciano) is killed in his mansion home, all the family members of his house are suspects. To further complicate things Sophia Leonides, Aristide’s granddaughter and heiress, hires her former lover, Detective Charles Hayward, to investigate the murder quietly before involving Scotland Yard. Sophia admits her fear that the killer may still be in the house.
As Charles makes his rounds to interview the family during his investigation, he realizes all of them have a motive. He also realizes that money sometimes has nothing to do with it. In other cases, money has everything to do with it as family members bicker about finances for seemingly dead-end ventures. In the end, Charles is shocked with a discovery that leads him on a race against time before yet another family member is killed.

During the mystery, it becomes clear that members of the Leonides clan are used to living privileged lives. Whatever they want is supplied in abundance, including their home, a sprawling mansion with many acres of land. Also, a lucrative business in making weapons more than covers the losses of Aristide’s sons’ business endeavors that don’t always go well. Yet, with all the financial riches of the Leonides, there’s a coldness within the household due to a deficiency of true love. There is plenty of passion, and they live with a love-hate relationship for each other. However, one character is willing to give it all up and, in a warped way, sacrifice everything for a loved one.
CROOKED HOUSE shows one family’s lifestyle without Jesus Christ. With all their riches, alcohol, lovers, and lusts, they can’t find happiness, peace or contentment. Even one character’s selfless solution to a problem ends in a double homicide.
