Mei Lin grows up in a rural village with a Christian father and an Anti-Christian grandmother. Her mother was imprisoned and tortured to death for her faith.
Mei Lin is a brilliant young girl who wants to go to university in Shanghai. The young people’s police officer has his eyes on her, but she can’t stand him. She’s in love with a young man who doesn’t want to leave the village. When she rejects the people’s police officer and declares her faith, she’s thrown into prison.
Mei Lin cries out to God and gets the revelation that she should clean the other prison cells of all the years of blood and excrement. Each cell she cleans, she’s able to minister to the prisoners in solitary confinement. Many come to Christ. She becomes such a positive influence for the Gospel in the prison that they kick her out.
Mei Lin goes to live with a woman who’s waiting for her husband to be released in prison. Like her grandmother, the woman’s daughter isn’t a Christian. Hope finds a young orphan hiding in the bushes in the park. They team up to find the young orphan’s only friend, who’s been sent to the government’s orphanage gulag.
