"Riveting and Heartrending"
What You Need To Know:
This story grabs your heart. There are moments of extreme pathos and moments of joy. The Gospel is lifted up, and God acts in the lives of these people. This should be a movie, but may not be because China is such a big market for movies and wouldn’t like the truth be told about the government’s hostility toward Christians and its sad, cruel policy of one child. So, don’t wait for the movie. Read DAUGHTER OF CHINA immediately.
(CCC, BBB, VVV, M) Very strong Christian worldview set in the oppressive Anti-Christian, one child communist country of China showing that China’s opened up to economic freedoms but still oppresses and controls Christians and reproduction; no foul language; novel contains many passages with extreme violence, including the starving and killing of children, women, prisoners and other oppressive acts of violence; no sexual immorality but some kissing; no drinking; no smoking or drugs; and, families live in deception and fear of their own family members.
DAUGHTER OF CHINA is an extremely powerful novel showing the challenges and triumphs of a young Christian girl in a rapidly changing but still oppressive Chinese communist culture. DAUGHTER OF CHINA reads as well as the famous book UNBROKEN with constant, compelling jeopardy.
Mei Lin grows up in a rural village with a Christian father and an Anti-Christian grandmother. Her mother was imprisoned and tortured to death for her faith.
Mei Lin is a brilliant young girl who wants to go to university in Shanghai. The young people’s police officer has his eyes on her, but she can’t stand him. She’s in love with a young man who doesn’t want to leave the village. When she rejects the people’s police officer and declares her faith, she’s thrown into prison.
Mei Lin cries out to God and gets the revelation that she should clean the other prison cells of all the years of blood and excrement. Each cell she cleans, she’s able to minister to the prisoners in solitary confinement. Many come to Christ. She becomes such a positive influence for the Gospel in the prison that they kick her out.
Mei Lin goes to live with a woman who’s waiting for her husband to be released in prison. Like her grandmother, the woman’s daughter isn’t a Christian. Hope finds a young orphan hiding in the bushes in the park. They team up to find the young orphan’s only friend, who’s been sent to the government’s orphanage gulag.
Every aspect of this story grabs your heart. There are moments of extreme pathos and moments of joy. The Gospel is lifted up, and God acts in the lives of these people. This should be a movie, but may not be because China is such a big market for movies and wouldn’t like the truth be told about the government’s current crackdown on Christians and the sad, cruel policy of one child. So, don’t wait for the movie. Read DAUGHTER OF CHINA immediately.
