DEMOLITION MAN

What You Need To Know:

DEMOLITION MAN opens in the year 1996 with Sylvester Stallone as John Spartan, a Los Angeles cop who always gets his man, usually at the expense of most of the surrounding terrain and even if it means chasing Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) into the year 2032. In all, DEMOLITION MAN is a very violent, anarchistic, libertarian diatribe packaged in terrific humor which is sure to teach susceptable youth that cursing, rebellion, adolescent anti-social behavior, and violence are the marks of a real macho-man--in fact, a DEMOLITION MAN, who will destroy everything to get want he wants. Of course, neither utopian socialism (which this film accurately exposes), nor libertarian anarchy are the answer--rather, a free and responsible society governed by biblical principles, like the United States of America once was.

Content:

(H, LLL, VVV, S, NN, H, AC, M) Anarchistic libertarian worldview; 66 obscenities & 6 profanities; intense action violence, killing and brutality, violence promoted as stimulating and as effective means to an end; reference to futuristic simulated sex where participants never touch; male nudity in cryogenic stasis and brief female nudity; utopian, semi-socialist society in future USA; and, morality, authority, safe-sex, health consciousness, & environmentalism are mocked through humorous portrayal of futuristic system where anything deemed non-productive or detrimental to a peaceful society and its members is made illegal.

More Detail:

DEMOLITION MAN opens in the year 1996 with Sylvester Stallone as John Spartan, a Los Angeles cop who always gets his man, but usually at the expense of the surrounding terrain, thereby garnering his nickname–DEMOLITION MAN. Spartan is sentenced, along with deranged killer Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), to frozen jail time in the L.A. Cryo Prison: Phoenix for taking 30 hostages; Spartan for blowing up the building (and, allegedly, the hostages held therein) during his apprehension of Phoenix. The rest of the film is action-packed and bloody, following Stallone in his relentless pursuit of Wesley Snipes.

Aside from the physical violence and the bad language, the most disturbing aspect of this film is the libertarian worldview that promotes anarchy and mocks morality and authority. However, the writing and directing are very good, the supporting cast is great, the action is fast and furious, and Stallone and Snipes are hot. In all, DEMOLITION MAN is a violent, anarchistic diatribe packaged in humor which will teach children that cursing, rebellion and violence are the marks of a real man–a DEMOLITION MAN, who will destroy to get want he wants. Of course, neither utopian socialism (which this film accurately exposes), nor anarchy are the answer–rather, a free and responsible society governed by biblical principles, like the United States once was.
