Influencer Brittany Lutz got vulnerable as she reflected how she works to help and encourages others.
“I love to encourage people. Being a cheerleader and showing people what has worked and not worked for me is one of the things that gives me the most life,” she began. “But lately l’ve learned something about myself…I love to encourage people from the -other side-of the bridge.”
She continued, “I love to show people what God has done for me, where He brought me from and through, things that have and haven’t worked and hopefully offer some encouragement to keep going and point out some blind spots to look for to avoid heartbreak.”
“But what if you’re not on the other side of the bridge?” she asked. “What if you can’t even see the end of the bridge?”
Lutz, who’s the wife of TWILIGHT star Kellan Lutz, then explained a revelation. Instead of being a leader, she was being a “coach.”
“Where are a coach’s eyes fixed? On the person they’re coaching. Shouting encouragements and giving tips that can help performance. But where are a leader’s eyes fixed? On the vision. On where they’re going,” she explained. “They may or may not have been where they’re going before but the best leaders lead best when their eyes are fixed.”

She clarified that this does not mean coaches are bad.
“While we’re not all called to coach, we are ALL called to lead. Maybe coaching is a part of that vision God gave you. But the point is and the question we ALL need to ask ourselves: Where are our eyes fixed? On others? It can be from a positive place like wanting to encourage and it can be from a negative place like comparison. Or on the Person who holds heaven and earth and our future/joy/happiness/peace/fulfillment?”
She concluded, “You would think after more than 3 decades following Jesus my eyes would never slip from being aimed at His glory and here I am, yet again, being gently reminded that when my eyes aren’t on Him I will get nowhere. Sharing if you needed this reminder too.”
Lutz frequently uses her platform to encourage and uplift others. Recently she posted a sweet video of herself and her family at the beach, quoting Isaiah 55:8-9 which says, “’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,’ says the Lord. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.’”
“It’s crazy to think that I could have missed all this had I not embraced the wait, handed the pen over and let God write my story,” she wrote.
Although we may not always understand what God is doing, we can chose to be leaders and be an uplifting example to others.
