EDMOND

What You Need To Know:

EDMOND, starring William H. Macy, is based on a play by David Mamet. Macy plays Edmond Burke, a milquetoast white collar businessman in New York City. One day, Edmond stops off at a psychic reader and gets a Tarot card reading. The fortune teller tells him that he's not in the place where he should be. At home, Edmond tells his wife that he's leaving for good because he stopped loving her long ago. She angrily throws him out. In a fancy bar, a racist white man gets Edmond to agree with him and hands him a card to a nude nightclub. Edmond goes in search of sex with a prostitute and ends up becoming a convicted murderer and the willing homosexual lover of his cellmate, a large black man.

The intent of this abhorrent movie is to harangue middle-class white men, who are viewed as racist, sexist and anti-homosexual. Having its white protagonist become the Jack-the-Ripper, homosexual lover of a black man in prison is the movie's politically correct way of condemning middle-class white society in America. Needless to say, the movie also contains abundant foul language, very strong sexual content, nudity, and occultism.

Content:

More Detail:

EDMOND, starring William H. Macy, is based on a play by David Mamet. Macy plays Edmond Burke, a milquetoast white collar businessman in New York City. One day, Edmond stops off at a psychic reader and gets a Tarot card reading. The fortune teller tells him that he’s not in the place where he should be.

At home, Edmond tells his wife that he’s leaving for good because he stopped loving her long ago. She angrily throws him out.

In a fancy bar, Edmond runs into a racist white man angry at minorities who don’t work as hard as he and Edmond do. Edmond agrees with the racist, who gives Edmond a card to a nude nightclub. Edmond goes to the club looking for sex, but when he finds out how expensive it can be, he makes a scene, and they throw him out.

Edmond keeps trying to find a prostitute but doesn’t have enough money. He goes to a pawn shop to sell his ring and walks out with a vicious-looking military knife.

A black pimp tries to rob Edmond, but Edmond brutally slashes him and leaves him bleeding on the ground.

At a bar, Edmond seduces the pretty white waitress, who responds positively to Edmond’s racist talk and his hatred of homosexuals. After fornicating at her place, he tries to get her to open up about her own feelings of inadequacy, but she gets scared, especially when he pulls out the knife. As she gets more and more scared, Edmond gets angrier and angrier. He finally slashes her to death with her blood splattering all over his body.

Eventually, Edmond is caught, goes to prison and ends up being the willing homosexual partner of his cellmate, a large black man.

The intent of this abhorrent movie is to harangue middle-class white men, who are viewed as racist, sexist and anti-homosexual. Having its racist protagonist become the Jack-the-Ripper, homosexual lover of a black man in prison is the movie’s politically correct way of condemning middle-class, white society in the United States. In one scene, after committing murder, Edmond tries to testify at a black church, but he’s arrested before he can get saved and rejects God and Jesus thereafter. “Every fear hides a wish,” Edmond concludes near the end. Thus, any white man who shuns homosexuality or who wants a weapon to protect himself or who lets slip a racist thought secretly longs to be a homosexual or to murder other people, especially minorities. Needless to say, this movie also contains abundant foul language, very strong sexual content, nudity, occult content, and substance abuse. Its politically correct humanism is mixed with New Age paganism and occultism. It’s a syncretistic, pretentious mess.
