(B, C, M) Nothing objectionable, but too complex for most children, and the issue of angels needs to be discussed.

More Detail:

FARAWAY, SO CLOSE! is the sequel to Director Wim Wenders’ earlier film, WINGS OF DESIRE, and tells the story of God’s love being communicated through angels since God, Himself, seems “faraway” to humans. The plot tenderly focuses on the angel character (now a man). In one scene, Mikhail Gorbachev (as himself) ponders what looks like a peace treaty on his desk while an angel puts a hand on Gorbachev’s shoulder; the treaty is signed. The film uses humor (especially with Peter Falk hamming up his Colombo role). Some funny scenes involve another angel becoming human by saving a little girl. The angel soon experiences the challenge of being human. @@@@@Director Wim Wenders claims to be a committed Christian, saying that his beliefs should be obvious in the film. However, even though the movie avoids aggrandizing angels, it is important to keep in mind Colossians 2:18 which stipulates, “Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize.” The film features fine performances which won the film the honor of “Special Jury Prize 46th Year” at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. This is a monumental honor for a film. HOWARD’S END received this same award last year.
