LEGION

"A Kingdom Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand"

What You Need To Know:

LEGION is an apocalyptic horror movie. It imagines a world where God, full of terrible regret and disappointment about the depravity of sinful, wicked people in our modern age, orders His angels to destroy mankind and kill the one baby who may turn humanity away from evil. God’s angels come down to Earth, start possessing human beings like one of Satan’s demons would do, and start attacking other human beings, including the young woman who carries the baby. Michael the Archangel rebels against God’s orders, comes down to Earth, cuts off his wings, and tries to help the woman with the baby, who is stranded in a desert diner with several other people. Eventually, the demonic-looking, angel-possessed human beings mass around the diner and viciously attack.

This ridiculous, inane story not only has an extremely aberrant, unbiblical view of angels (angels are spiritual beings, not physical beings who can be mutilated). It also has a false view of the divine nature of God. LEGION will confuse many moviegoers. It is unacceptable viewing and contains confusing theology; extreme, gratuitous foul language; and, graphic, disturbing violence. God has not lost His love for human beings.

Content:

(PaPaPa, FRFRFR, C, B, LLL, VVV, S, N, A, D, MM) Very strong pagan (PaPaPa), false worldview using some Christian (C) and biblical/moral (B) ideas to develop a very strong false, aberrant theology (FRFRFR) where God’s wrath against human beings is seen by demonic-looking or demonic-acting angels sent by God(!) to possess human beings, destroy humanity, and kill the one baby who may turn humanity away from evil, with Michael the Archangel rebelling and fighting the other angels carrying out God’s orders because he, Michael, still has faith in humanity, unlike God, who allegedly has lost it; at least 53 mostly strong obscenities (including many “f” words), four strong profanities, and three light profanities; some extreme bloody or graphic violence in a context full of very strong “action” violence such as angel and people use guns and machine guns to mow down other scary “possessed” people, explosions, possessed young boy attacks people with long knife, people and angels stabbed, man bitten in neck by possessed elderly lady, pointblank shootings, bloody wounds on face and neck, angel rebelling against a vengeful God sews skin on his back where he cut off his wings, people transformed into demonic-looking “angels” with sharp demonic-looking teeth, fighting hand-to-hand, choking, kicking people, elderly “possessed” woman hit with a thrown flying frying pan, swarm of locusts invades a minivan/truck with people in it, shot of dead man’s back where his skin has been boiled away, revealing his spinal backbone, vehicle crashes and rolls over quickly, etc.; no actual sex but some crude sexual references, including a reference to rape, and unmarried woman is pregnant; brief upper male nudity and female cleavage shown, plus teenager has very short skirt and her legs are shown while she bends over a jukebox; alcohol use; smoking, including by pregnant young woman; and, strong miscellaneous immorality and problems includes a mother says a mean thing to her teenage daughter, pregnant woman describes her decision process when she decided not to have an abortion, woman quotes dead mother who said God has grown tired of “all the BS,” confusing and aberrant angelology, two angels debate orders God has given to them and disagree, teenage daughter says mean thing to parents, man disagrees with angel and tells angel that what the angel is saying is not in his Bible but angel apparently turns out to be right, so the Bible must be wrong.

More Detail:

When the Pharisees, who did not obey God’s Law but made up their own laws to enslave others, saw Jesus driving out evil demons who had possessed and hurt people, they said Jesus was driving out the demons by the power of Beelzebub, a pejorative name used for Satan or Lucifer, aka the Devil (Matthew 12:24). Knowing the evil intents of their hearts, Jesus replies (Matthew 12:25-28):

“Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And, if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.”

The new apocalyptic horror movie, LEGION, reminds MOVIEGUIDE® of Jesus Christ’s words.

LEGION imagines a world where God, full of terrible regret and disappointment about the depravity of sinful, wicked people in our modern age, orders His angels to destroy mankind and kill the one baby who may turn humanity away from evil. So ordered, God’s angels come down to Earth, start possessing human beings like one of Satan’s demons would do (and like something out of THE EXORCIST), and start attacking other human beings, including the young woman who carries the baby. Michael the Archangel rebels against God’s orders, comes down to Earth, cuts off his wings, and tries to help the woman with the baby, who is stranded in a desert diner with several other people. Eventually, the demonic-looking angel-possessed human beings mass around the diner and are led by none other than the angel Gabriel.

This ridiculous, inane story not only has an extremely aberrant, unbiblical view of the nature of angels (angels are spiritual beings, not physical beings who can be killed or mutilated), it also has a false view of the divine nature of God, not to mention human beings. Whatever one may think about the visual aspects of God’s wrath, His wrath does not appear in the form of demonic-looking and demonic-acting angels who possess the bodies of human beings to kill people. Instead, that’s actually something that Satan would order his demons to do.

LEGION’S aberrant view of God’s Nature can be seen in other parts of the movie.

For example, Michael tells Gabriel and the people in the diner that, unlike God, he has never lost “faith” and “hope” in human beings. Eventually, he tells Gabriel that he, Michael, has given God what he “needed” while Gabriel only gave God what he “wanted.”

First of all, God has already made provision for the terrible, awful sins of human beings through the sacrifice of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, on the Cross. So, it’s really not a question of whether God has “faith” or “hope” in human beings. Instead, the Bible says that God has never lost His love for human beings, the love that prompted God to send Jesus Christ to die for us in the first place (John 3:16).

Secondly, contrary to the beliefs of some other religions and some false Non-Christian cults, God is not a finite spiritual being who “needs” anything. God is sufficient unto Himself, and He created the universe and human beings out of His love, and His joy, for the benefit of all. Not because He “needed” to do it!

Ultimately, LEGION is a movie that will just confuse people, especially those people who don’t study or haven’t studied the Bible. It is also full of extreme, gratuitous foul language and graphic, disturbing violence. The violence includes evil images of a small “angel-possessed” boy wielding a knife against innocent people and eventually being violently dispatched off-screen.

Thus, although there are a couple positive moral themes and some positive references to God and angels, LEGION is an unacceptable movie full of false ideas, spiritual and theological confusion, and gratuitous, degrading content. Like the ideas of the Pharisees, its worldview is a man-made, pagan thing that should be shunned by all moviegoers, not just Bible-believing Christians.

God has not lost His love for human beings. His Kingdom cannot be divided against itself.
