What You Need To Know:

PLANES is another animated movie set in the world of the Pixar movie CARS, where planes, cars, boats, and blimps live and occupy the earth. Dusty Crophopper is a small crop-dusting plane with dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. When he finally gets a chance to compete, he must learn values like friendship, integrity and overcoming one’s fear.

PLANES is a funny, entertaining and exciting movie that all ages will enjoy. Though the quality doesn’t live up to the standards of Pixar movies in terms of storytelling, it makes up for it with lots of charm. The characters of PLANES are both unique and lovable. PLANES also provides children with some good lessons for life, promoting a moral worldview. Throughout the movie, Dusty is a nice guy with big dreams who cares more about the safety of his competitors than he does winning. Also, the movie shows that everyone can learn positive attributes like integrity, friendship, and overcoming one’s fear. PLANES is void of objectionable content other than some name calling, brief animated action and an instance where Dusty lies.

Content:

(BB, C, FR, V, M) Strong moral worldview with some redemptive elements where main character is kind and cares more about his competitors’ safety than the actual competition, integrity, forgiveness and friendship are promoted, and pride is the downfall of the bad guy, but one of the Indian competitors alludes that tractors (cows in the fictional world of PLANES) are sacred and that they can be recycled (or reincarnated) into one after they die; no foul language, with heck, suckers and moron used, and some light scatological humor, even though they are all vehicles; light action violence involving planes crashing, a flashback to a world war shows some planes getting shot down by battleships, also a somewhat frightening sequence takes place in a storm; no sexual content, but a romance does brew between planes; no nudity; no alcohol; no smoking or drugs; and, a few times, when questioned, Dusty resorts to lying and this aspect isn’t really disputed, plus the bad guy cheats several times during the race.

More Detail:

PLANES is another animated movie set in the world of the Pixar movie CARS, where planes, cars, boats, and even blimps live and occupy the earth. Dusty Crophopper is a small crop-dusting plane with dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. He practices his maneuvers over the fields he fertilizes day in and day out until one day he decides to try out for the qualifier.

Even though he completes the qualifier in good time, Dusty doesn’t do well enough to compete in the final race. When it’s found out that another plane cheated, Dusty is asked to take his spot in the race around the world.

To have any chance of winning, Dusty needs a team. He asks his neighbor Skipper Riley, a disabled war veteran plane, to be his coach and mentor. With the help of his goofy friends, Chug the fuel truck and Dottie the forklift, Dusty just might be able to get good enough to compete and even win the race. There’s one problem: he’s afraid of heights and only flies at low altitudes.

When the day of the race arrives, Dusty is introduced to some of his competition. They include the mean and cruel Ripslinger, a proper Brit known as Bulldog, and El Chupacabra, a Latino romantic. Dusty’s adventure around the world will force him to overcome his fears and learn about the most important things in life.

PLANES is a funny, entertaining and exciting movie that all ages will enjoy. Though the quality doesn’t live up to the standards of Pixar movies in terms of storytelling, it makes up for it in charm. The characters of PLANES are both unique and lovable. They give the movie a life of its own. The animated personality (pun intended) of each plane is matched with fun and colorful animation.

PLANES also provides children with some good lessons for life, promoting a moral worldview (via mccullough here). Throughout the movie, Dusty is a nice guy with big dreams who cares more about the safety of his competitors than he does about winning. Because of his acts of kindness, he inspires a whole audience of cars and planes just like him. Also, the movie shows that pride goes before the fall and that everyone can learn positive attributes like integrity, friendship, and overcoming one’s fear.

PLANES is void of objectionable content other than some name calling, brief animated action, and an instance where Dusty lies.
