STAY ALIVE

What You Need To Know:

STAY ALIVE is a PG-13 ghost story with some moral, redemptive elements. Hutch and his friends are avid video game players who love to gather online. When four of his friends turn up dead under mysterious circumstances after playing a mysterious new game called "Stay Alive," Hutch and his other friends investigate to make sure the same thing doesn't happen to them. Unhappily, the game now seems to have a mind of its own. Only by playing the game can they stop the game and protect themselves from the murdering spirit controlling the game.

STAY ALIVE has its moments. A major problem is that the two romantic lead characters are overshadowed by two or three of the other characters, including Frankie Muniz as a talented computer geek. Frankie's acting experience clearly shows in this movie, which is also saddled with an abhorrent occult worldview which posits that the spirits of dead people can manipulate reality. Although the ghost is the villain, the good guys use occult pagan superstitions to help them defeat it. The occult, pagan worldview elements are too overpowering and abhorrent to recommend STAY ALIVE to families, Christians or media-wise moviegoers.
