THE SALTON SEA

What You Need To Know:

THE SALTON SEA is a moody, dark thriller starring Val Kilmer as a speed freak with a secret, who gets involved with a nasty hillbilly gangster with no nose, two crooked cops and the FBI. Kilmer plays Danny Parker, a speed freak who was once a talented horn player named Tom Van Allen. Tom has a secret, tragic past that leads him to run around with a group of like-minded speed freaks. Danny/Tom also has a secret agenda, however, that puts him into violent conflict with a violent, heavyset drug dealer named Pooh Bear and two crooked cops. Toward the end, the FBI also gets involved.

A moody, often funny thriller, with another excellent performance by Val Kilmer, THE SALTON SEA contains excessive scenes of violence, drug abuse and revenge. Although Kilmer’s character is on a mission of justice, his mission becomes one of pure violent revenge toward the very end. Also, Vincent D’Onofrio as Pooh Bear plays one of those nightmarish, evil characters that Hollywood seems to enjoy glorifying in a back-handed way, much like Hannibal the Cannibal in SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Thus, MOVIEGUIDE® cannot really recommend this movie to anyone

Content:
