"Looking for a Cat and a Lover"

What You Need To Know:

WHEN THE CAT’S AWAY is a French film about a young woman in a rapidly changing Paris who looses her cat, looks for it and instead finds love. Chloe is a make-up artist whose love life is going nowhere. The only men in her life are her homosexual roommate, Michel, and her cat, Gris-Gris. When she goes on vacation, Chloe leaves Gris-Gris with Madame Renée. When Chloe returns, Madame Renée informs her that Gris-Gris escaped. While they search for the cat, Madame Renée introduces Chloe to the neighborhood characters. When Chloe can’t find Gris-Gris, she tries to gain affection from her roommate, who won’t give it to her, and then from a drummer. An unexpected romance emerges when Chloe finds her lost pet.

This movie shows an ironic contrast between old Paris and new. Old and new are also demonstrated with Chloe’s relationships with Madame Renée and her friends. The real story is about Chloe’s need for romance. Her life brightens when she finds love. Using non-actors and professional talent, this charming love story is defiled by obscenities, implied fornication and a brief homosexual sodomy scene
