What You Need To Know:
ONE RANGER is a solid B thriller with lots of action. Thomas Jane is very good as the Texas Ranger. The story involves stopping a terrorist and bringing him to justice. So, the movie has a strong moral, patriotic worldview with many positive nods to law enforcement, including the Texas Rangers. However, there are several brutal fistfights and many gunfights with point blank shootings. ONE RANGER also has nearly 40 “f” words and an explicit scene where the villain visits an old girlfriend. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises excessive.
Content:
Strong moral, patriotic worldview supports justice and protecting society from evildoers as a Texas Ranger and a female British agent work together to stop a planned terrorist attack led by a former IRA terrorist (the terrorist murdered the Ranger’s partner so the Ranger’s pursuit of the terrorist to bring him to justice, dead or alive, is relentless), plus villain compares what he’s doing with what George Washington did, and he’s working with a Muslim terrorist who says he carries “the blood of the Prophet” in himself
51 obscenities (including nearly 40 “f” words), one Jesus profanity and one GD profanity
Lots of very strong and strong violence with blood includes several brutal fight scenes up close (including one scene using a pipe and a small sledgehammer), bad guy’s left eye is gouged out, many gunfights include people shot dead point blank and wounded, criminals kill several police officers, and some explosions occur
An explicit scene where villain visits an old girlfriend’s bedroom
Upper male nudity in one scene
Some alcohol use
No smoking or drugs; and,
Villain buys an artillery weapon.
More Detail:
The movie opens with Texas Ranger Alex Tyree tracking and arresting an American Indian accused of stealing a horse and fancy rifle. Tyree gets a call about a group of four bank robbers who killed a security guard and are headed his way in an off-road vehicle. Sure enough, their vehicle comes speeding toward him. He takes the stolen rifle and starts firing at the vehicle, hitting the driver. The other three men try to take off. Tyree takes down two of them and captures the leader.
The leader happens to be a former IRA member named Declan McBride. Tyree and his young partner, Ranger Daniels, start to ferry McBride to jail back in town. However, they’re ambushed by other compatriots of McBride, who kill Daniels. Tyree survives, and McBride and a surviving thug, who happens to be McBride’s right-hand guy, run off when sirens announce more police are coming.
Back in town, Tyree is introduced to Smith, a female British agent who’s been tracking down McBride. British Intelligence thinks McBride is planning a major terrorist attack against London. Since Tyree is one of the few officers who’s ever spoken to McBride, Tyree’s boss loans out Tyree to help Smith and the British track down and stop McBride.
