Implied prostitution, a married couple kisses passionately, implied rape;

In “I Have Called You By Name,” episode one of THE CHOSEN, audiences are introduced to the characters and settings of the Gospel. They include Simon and Andrew, the fishermen; Matthew, the tax collector; pious and corrupt religious authorities; and, greedy and violent Roman centurions.
This first episode starts several stories on their paths. Simon and Andrew might lose their boat. Matthew hates being a tax collector. Also, tensions between the Jews and the Romans are boiling over. Meanwhile, a young woman named Mary Magdalene suffers from severe demon possession. Even the religious leaders can’t draw them out. Finally, everyone is waiting for the coming Messiah.
THE CHOSEN brings to life with artful care the stories surrounding the life of Jesus. Viewers will enjoy rediscovering familiar characters. In this first episode, the dialogue and performances are strong. Brilliant use of scriptural details and verbatim Scripture occurs throughout the episode, especially in Mary Magdalene’s storyline. There’s a strong Christian worldview in “I Have Called You By Name.” Violence and some disturbing portrayals of demons warrant caution for younger children.
