What You Need To Know:
In ZOEY 102, Zoey, Chase and their peanut gallery of friends undergo a succession of contrived, awkward situations in a trite narrative. The movie promotes a Romantic worldview where it’s acceptable to be 30 and still hung up on things that happened when you were 17. This drivel and its ludicrous messages typify many modern romantic comedy movies, which rarely break their formula into genuinely original storytelling. People who’ve never seen a romantic comedy before might find ZOEY 102 watchable. The movie has brief foul language, heavy drinking when the main character becomes stressed and a reference to same-sex marriage.
Content:
Promotes a strong Romantic worldview where characters have no moral governing authority and tend to act in their own self-interest without concern for others, with a reference to same-sex marriage between two men, but there is a positive moral theme stressing honesty
Four obscenities (including two “s” words), one light profanity and several vulgarities or scatological euphemisms
Some slapstick comedy such as title character turns around and runs into waiters carrying a birthday cake and ice and drinks, some verbal references to serial killing, and a character is tied up in a car trunk
A shirtless man dances suggestively, a verbal reference to sending nude photos, a verbal reference to two men getting married
Upper male nudity in beach and pool settings and when a shirtless man dances suggestively and multiple women in swimsuits display cleavage
The main character drinks heavily when stressed (this is portrayed comically), and characters drink socially in moderation as well
No smoking or drugs; and,
A man steals the title character’s plot idea for a reality TV program, woman’s self-centered boss ignores her and some dishonesty occurs, but it’s ultimately rebuked.
