SQUANTO: A WARRIOR'S TALE

Quality:
****
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
The exciting historical-adventure drama, SQUANTO: A WARRIOR'S TALE, tells the amazing legend of a Native American Indian and his enslavement at the hands of English traders, his daring escape and his miraculous return to his New England homeland where he risks his life for peace and helps Pilgrim settlers survive in the early 1600s. Disney's SQUANTO is free of offensive content -- save for appropriate action violence -- and contains an exceptionally positive portrayal of Christian belief and principles.

BELFAST

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
BELFAST is a beautifully crafted drama about the lives of a young boy and his Protestant family in the Northern Ireland town during the Fall and Christmas of 1969, in a time of social upheaval when tensions between Protestants and Catholics broke out into violence. Filmed in black and white, BELFAST is a brilliant, life-affirming, dramatic, funny, and sometimes heartbreaking movie with positive Christian, redemptive, inspiring content, but the movie contains some strong foul language, two scenes of rioting and looting, and a universalist comment that undermines the New Testament biblical warning against being unequally yoked.

A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING is a delightful PEANUTS cartoon movie made for television where Peppermint Patty invites herself and many others over to Charlie Brown’s house for Thanksgiving. A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING is an adorable animated movie with some great, positive messages the whole family can enjoy.

A WALTONS THANKSGIVING

In A WALTONS THANKSGIVING airing on the CW channel, the Walton family experiences all sorts of fun and challenges during the annual Harvest Festival Fair, including a talent show, a pie contest, an orphaned boy being mistreated by a carnival worker, and a missing Walton girl, while John Boy must deal with the two girls he’s interested in. A WALTONS THANKSGIVING is another wonderful, exciting program where faith and family underlie every scene.

TOY STORY 4

Quality:
****
Content:
+2 Moderately questionable elements.
TOY STORY 4 is another breakthrough in great computer animation, and even greater storytelling, with a story about Woody needing to rescue a new friend who’s being held hostage in an antique shop. Filled with laughter, tears, thrills, and romance, TOY STORY 4 has a few scary scenes that merit caution for very young children.

****
Content:

A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a wonderful movie starring Tom Hanks as the famous children’s television host, Fred Rogers, whose simple Christian wisdom helps a troubled reporter become a better man and reconcile with his estranged father. A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a delightful, winsome, powerful, heartrending movie that exalts forgiveness, kindness, grace, and love.

RUDY

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
RUDY is the heroic, basically true struggle of a little guy trying to reach the impossible dream of playing football at Notre Dame. Through his perseverance, he becomes a real life role model in reaching a desired goal. Regrettably, the depiction of Catholicism is somewhat skewed, although a sovereign God is implicitly extoled; and, the film is marred by some foul language, although the character using the most profanity is reformed by his girlfriend.

LITTLE WOMEN (2019)

Quality:
****
Content:
+2 Moderately questionable elements.
LITTLE WOMEN (2019) is the most gorgeous, historically accurate big screen version of the famous book by Louisa May Alcott that’s been made several times in movies and for television. Better yet, LITTLE WOMEN has no foul language, no sex, no nudity, no violence but is a delightful character study with very strong Christian content about a family dealing with real issues during the Civil War. Along with the 2019 version, there were productions of LITTLE WOMEN released in 1994, 2018 and 2018 (PBS).
