CECIL B. DEMENTED

CECIL B. DEMENTED is a tired celebration of anarchy, rampant immorality and anti-Christian bigotry imbued with a self-righteous philosophy favoring total artistic freedom. Although it’s an unrelentingly campy satire that one shouldn’t take too seriously, the self-righteousness of this movie comes through loud and clear.

Made by campy director John Waters, CECIL B. DEMENTED is about a group of wild filmmaking anarchists in Baltimore who kidnap a glamorous Hollywood actress, Honey Whitlock, played by Melanie Griffith, to make a radical statement against mainstream Hollywood cinema. Led by Stephen Dorff in the title role, the anarchists want to make a reality movie with Holly where the whole group completely vandalizes local movie theaters featuring mainstream films. The political anarchy, violent images, sexual immorality, drug use, and even Satanic content, escalate until Cecil commits fiery suicide in a comical gun battle with police.

The excesses of Hollywood and the vacuity of many mainstream movies, including some family movies, are certainly ripe for some good satire, but CECIL B. DEMENTED takes it to the nth degree while pushing a politically correct, nihilistic pagan worldview. Some critics may be duped by the apparent self-parodying quality of Waters’ movie, but the unrelenting sexual crudities, foul language and homosexual attacks on Christianity and traditional family values are absolutely abhorrent, if not dangerous to the minds of all viewers. Viewers can be thankful, however, that at least the movie shows that the true goal, consciously or unconsciously, of the political correctness of the liberal elite in America, including much of Hollywood, is nothing short of the annihilation of all Christian and all biblical values from society. It really is a Culture War out there, dear readers, and the sooner that everyone in the conservative, neo-conservative, “moderate,” and evangelical establishments in America realizes this fact, the better!
