That this plot is a cause for laughter shows just how twisted society is. The movie is played straight. This is no slapstick comedy. The behavior is deadly. The impact of alcohol is shown to be seriously bad. Besides its bad premise, the movie contains a generous helping of foul language, several scenes of mob violence and lots of alcohol. YOU KILL ME is not a movie you would want to invite your pastor to see.

(Ro, LLL, VV, S, AAA, D, M) A twisted romantic worldview in which murder is just a job and alcoholism hampers one’s skills as a murderer; 29 obscenities and two profanities; several mob murders, but not graphic; one scene of sex outside of marriage, not graphic in nature; no nudity; excessive alcohol use showing drunkenness to be debilitating, alcoholism condemned and efforts to stop drinking are encouraged and nameless god of Alcoholics Anonymous promoted as necessary for overcoming addiction; smoking; and, dishonesty and mob related activity like gambling and “protection” bribery portrayed.

YOU KILL ME is jaded comedy/thriller about a mob hit man who attends Alcoholics Anonymous in order to keep his job as a hit-man. The movie open with Frank (played by Ben Kingsley) too drunk to pull off an important hit job he was assigned. The “family” ships him off to San Francisco to dry out so he can return to work killing people. While on the West Coast, Frank holds a temporary job in a morgue where he meets Laurel (played by Tea Leoni), whose deceased father Frank was preparing for a viewing. The two strike up a friendship.
Frank at first finds his Alcoholics Anonymous meetings silly but gradually gets into the program even to the point that he speaks to the group saying, “I’m an alcoholic, and I kill people.” He tells how his drinking interfered with his skills as an assassin and how he wants to clean up his act and get back to killing people properly. He even mails gift certificates to the families of some of his victims apologizing for the sloppiness of their family member’s execution.
The idea that such a plot is cause for laughter shows just how twisted society can get.
The movie is actually played quite straight. This is no slapstick comedy. The mob behavior is deadly. The impact of alcohol is shown to be seriously bad. The Alcoholics Anonymous meetings include some serious sounding confessions. At one point, Frank’s sponsor tells him he needs to rely on a higher power, God. But he adds that the god need not be Jesus or any specific god, just the idea of some power higher than himself.
The truth is God does exist and he commands us not to kill, drink excessively or engage in the kinds of behavior mobs make a living on. The real solution to alcoholism is repentance and reliance on the one true God, Jesus Christ, for renewal and restoration. Rather than meeting to confess being an alcoholic, God would set you free and have you claim your freedom.
In addition to its bad premise, YOU KILL ME contains a generous helping of foul language, several scenes of mob violence, and lots of alcohol and smoking. It is not a movie you would want to invite your pastor to see.
