More Detail:

The Russians have returned to the American cinema with all the wickedness that we knew from them during the cold war movies. MAXIMUM RISK has Jean-Claude Van Damme as a Frenchman fighting Lenin-like badies for top secret information. Alain Moreau , played by Van Damme , is a French police officer from Nice who is investigating the murder of his twin brother, Mikhail. At birth, Alain’s mother gave up Mikhail to a Russian Mafia family. When Mikhail found about Alain in a newspaper and wanted to visit him, the Mafia assumed he was selling-out and killed him. No ordinary investigation, Alain is now being pursued simultaneously by the Russian Mafia and the FBI. When the corrupt FBI kidnap Mikhail’s girlfriend Alex, Alain must find a way to rescue her, go to the safety deposit and fend off the angry Russians.

This movie doesn’t hold back on action. It has falls, fights, shootings, chases, crashes, explosions, and more. With locations in France and New York City, it attempts to have a little class, but with poor writing and the usual wooden acting from the star, it fails. This movie breaks no new ground thematically or morally. This is a violent, gritty, weak movie that will have minimum impact at the box office.
