A new faith-based movie featuring a friendship between a down-and-out professional baseball player and a grocery store clerk with Down’s Syndrome is set to debut in theaters May 15.

WHERE HOPE GROWS tells the story of Produce, a grocery store clerk played by first-time actor David DeSantis, who has Down’s Syndrome in real life. Produce’s faith in God changes Calvin Campbell, a baseball player who struggles with alcoholism, panic attacks and other life issues. Produce also helps Calvin to be courageous and find redemption on and off the baseball field.

Roadside Attractions and Godspeed Pictures teamed up to create this movie, which also stars Kristoffer Polaha as Campbell.

“We are thrilled to be releasing the award-winning WHERE HOPE GROWS to the North American moviegoing audience,” Roadside Attractions Co-President Howard Cohen said in an interview with the Christian Post. “It is a film with an uplifting spirit and performances that will touch your heart.”

Producer Simran Singh acknowledged DeSantis’s endearing performance, praising also the work of writer and director Chris Dowling and the entire cast and crew.

“We are excited to be working with Roadside Attractions to bring this moving story of love and hope to the big screen,” she said in a statement. “Audiences around the world will fall in love with David DeSantis as he lights up the screen thanks to an exceptional director, cast and crew.”

WHERE HOPE GROWS also includes Billy Zabka, Brooke Burns, McKaley Miller, Alan Powell, and Danica McKellar in its cast.

The movie has drawn significant attention from social media. For example, the movie’s Facebook page has more than 275,000 likes. For a preview of WHERE HOPE GROWS, please see the movie’s trailer below.
