LUTHER (2003)

The movie LUTHER covers the early years of Martin Luther’s life, from his days as a monk in the early 1500s to the proclamation of the Augsburg Confession in 1530, which founded the Lutheran Church in Germany. It is a wonderful, entertaining historical drama that, despite some flaws, shows how one man’s faith in God changed the history of the world.

From the Nativity to His Ascension, the movie depicts the birth, ministry, death, and Resurrection of Christ in His life on earth. A word-for-word visual depiction, this DVD movie quotes the entirety of Matthew’s Gospel narrative with verse references at the bottom of the screen throughout. THE BOOK OF RUTH: JOURNEY OF FAITH

THE BOOK OF RUTH: JOURNEY OF FAITH is the classic Bible story of faith, loyalty, and redemption brought directly to DVD. During a time of famine, Elimelech moves from Israel to Moab with his wife Naomi and two sons. The sons marry women from Moab. Elimelech and both sons died, leaving Naomi and the son’s wives, Ruth and Orpa, as three widows. When Naomi learns that the famine in Israel has ended, she returns. Ruth shows tremendous loyalty by going with her, knowing that the chance she could remarry would be almost nil. Ruth goes to the fields of a relative, Boaz, to glean what is left when his harvesters have finished. She finds favor with Boaz, and he becomes her kinsman redeemer. Ruth becomes the mother of Obed, King David’s grandfather.

The budget and the quality of THE BOOK OF RUTH is more like a church drama than a Hollywood movie. It tells a strong story of redemption, however. As a conversation starter to talk about the Bible, this is an enjoyable DVD. Its message is far more uplifting than much of what Hollywood spends many millions making.
