What You Need To Know:

In THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2, Familiar characters Red, Boom and Chuck strike up a truce with their arch-rivals on Pig Island to stand against a threat of ice-bombs that are destroying their homeland. They enlist the help of Chuck’s Brainiac sister, Silver, and their eagle friend, Glenn, to put a stop to the destruction and get to the bottom of things. Will they be able to save the day?

THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 is worthwhile compared to many animated sequel movies. The dialogue is witty and fun. Also, with a slew of characters portraying different mannerisms and quirks, there’s something for all viewers to enjoy at some level. Parents might also enjoy the variety of throwback music. What’s exciting are the redemptive character transformations. Ultimately, THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 upholds a strong moral worldview. It stresses doing the right thing to protect others. However, it also has some feminist content and a reference to one character who maybe a witch. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for these two items and some for toilet humor, light profanities and animated violence.

Content:

(BB, CC, Fe, O, L, VV, S, N, A, M):

Dominant Worldview and Other Worldview Content/Elements:
Strong moral worldview, with some strong redemptive elements, includes allusions to Jesus, an emphasis on saving the day and creating safety for characters, there’s an emphasis on pro-life where a character exclaims, “ I want my unborn sisters back!,” marriage is extolled, the letters “WWRD – What Would Red Do” exhort a main character and remind one of the saying “What Would Jesus Do,” and flawed characters change their ways and are transformed for the better, but there’s a short feminist comment where a female character boasts about being able to do things by her own strength and puts herself first, brief occult comment when a character wonders if someone is a witch because she’s left-handed, and some uncategorizable miscellaneous elements such as mention of a character being an “engineering wizard,” but it’s used to describe someone’s talent, and a peace sign is depicted when a character strikes a truce

Foul Language:
No obscenities, six light profanities (OMG), four uses of “butt,” child character says, “Are you freaking kidding me,” one use of “crap,” two what the heck’s, a “stupid” insult is said twice, the words “flippin’ nerve” are used, a character mentions someone having “resting bird face” which is a play-off of a similar phrase with a different expletive, implied urinating in four scenes, and a character is seen on the toilet in one scene

Violence:
Some frantic and less frantic animated and slapstick violence includes character hits head on sink, and this knocks out his teeth and leaves him unconscious, a character ties up character, mirror gets smashed on another character, villain character tortures her accomplice by freezing his limbs when he doesn’t finish something as fast as she wants, ice chunks bomb bird, and pig islands, and child characters beat up a snake and skin part of it but that scene isn’t shown, just the results

Sex:
Very light implied sexuality includes unmarried couple has a child out of wedlock, but that’s only referenced in words and references to “mating” occur in a speed-dating scene, plus a couple kisses in photo and during wedding ceremony

Nudity:
Naturalistic animal nudity, weird moment where a pig emerges out of the rear of a bird costume, character takes a bath, bird character wears coconut bikini top, pig appears in thong swimsuit, pigs appear in skin tight spandex leotards

Alcohol Use:
Character takes security guards out for drinks, characters drink sparkling cider at a wedding

Smoking and/or Drug Use and Abuse:
No smoking or drugs;

Miscellaneous Immorality:
Character jokingly threatens character about dating his sister, character doodles on someone’s backside, and characters yell “jinx” a few times because they say the same word.

More Detail:

THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 is a sweet sequel that follows Red and his friends as they team up with their arch-nemeses from Pig Island to stop a threat to their homeland. THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 is witty, fun and ultimately redemptive for many characters. That said, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for some foul language, toilet humor animated violence and other miscellaneous elements.

The animated fantasy comedy begins on Bird Island where Red and his friends, Boom and Chuck, continue in full-stream with their prank war against Pig Island. One day, an ice-bomb prompts the pigs to ask for a truce to stand together against an unknown threat from a third island consumed by ice. Enlisting the help of Chuck’s Brainiac sister, Silver, and their eagle friend, Glenn, the pigs take the birds in a submarine to hatch a plan to save their islands.

Meanwhile, three child birds are playing charades on the beach. One child rushes off to use her baby sisters, aka eggs, as props when accidentally, they float away in the middle of the sea.

Cut back to Red and his pals. They sneak onto the frigid island, until they are shocked by some unexpected news. Glenn comes clean that his past might be the cause of their current predicament. Apparently, in the 1990s, Glenn left his fiancée Zeta (turned-villain) at the altar of their wedding day! Too afraid to proceed in helping Red and the gang tackle the matter at hand, Glenn flies away, leaving them to fend for themselves.

Headed by Chuck, the gang uses a bird costume as a trojan horse to gain entry into Zeta’s secret lair. Meanwhile, Silver and Red work on cutting the power to stop more ice bombs from destroying their islands.

What will become of all the characters in the face of this eminent threat?

THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 is worthwhile compared to many animated sequel movies. The dialogue is witty. The situations are funny, with lots of adventure. Also, there’s a slew of characters with different mannerisms and quirks, so there’s something for all viewers to identify with at some level. Parents who see the movie might enjoy the variety of throwback music. What’s more exciting, though, are the redemptive character transformations of Red from selfish to realizing the value of being a team player and of Zeta, whose heart grows from icy to warm because of love. Even Glenn admits he’s wrong and says he’s sorry.

Ultimately, THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 2 upholds a strong moral worldview, with some strong redemptive elements. It stresses doing the right thing to protect others and extolls marriage. However, it also has a quick feminist comment and a reference to one character maybe being a witch. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children for these two items, as well as some toilet humor, light profanities and animated violence.
