In Theaters November 8, 2019: Christmas, Romance, Patriotism and One Regrettably Creepy Movie…

LAST CHRISTMAS

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
LAST CHRISTMAS is a funny, heartfelt romantic comedy about a young woman who doesn’t have any motivation for life until she meets a compassionate man who works at a Christian homeless shelter and teaches her a life lesson. LAST CHRISTMAS has a strong moral worldview with overt, positive Christian references about learning to be selfless, but it’s marred by too much foul language and some references to implied sexual immorality, which warrant extreme caution.

MIDWAY (2019)

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
MIDWAY (2019) is a patriotic war movie about America’s response to Imperial Japan’s attack on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. MIDWAY is an exciting, fast-paced, well-crafted war movie about courage and sacrifice, but it does have an excessive amount of foul language.

KLAUS

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
KLAUS is an animated fantasy about a young postman who teams up with a toymaker named Klaus to deliver toys to children living in a faraway, unhappy town split in two by a terrible feud. KLAUS has some cartoon violence, brief implied magic and no references to Christmas, but it’s a witty, charming movie with heartwarming moments.

DOCTOR SLEEP

Quality:
****
Content:
-4 Intentional blasphemy, evil, gross immorality, and/or worldview problems. (To be avoided)
DOCTOR SLEEP is a horror sequel to THE SHINING, both Stephen King’s original book and Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 movie, and tells how Jack Torrance’s psychic son, Danny, an alcoholic like his troubled father, becomes sober, rediscovers his psychic powers and helps a teenage girl with psychic powers battle an evil cult preying on children. DOCTOR SLEEP doesn’t always explain how the psychic world works, but Ewan McGregor and Ryliegh Curran turn in terrific performances as Danny and the teenage girl who battle the malevolent cult leader and her followers. DOCTOR SLEEP has some poignant uplifting moments, but it also has an abhorrent occult worldview, disturbing violence and gratuitous foul language.

PLAYING WITH FIRE

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
PLAYING WITH FIRE is an endearing movie about three stranded children who cause comical chaos when they spend a few days with some firemen and smoke jumpers in Redding, California. PLAYING WITH FIRE has a strong moral worldview promoting family, love, marriage, taking care of people, in need, hospitality, and honor. PLAYING WITH FIRE will make children and adults laugh, but merits caution for younger children because of some potty humor, action violence and slapstick comedy.
