More Detail:

In “Wigs,” the second episode of ALEXA & KATIE, Alexa and Katie decide to buy wigs to wear at school after Katie shaved her hair when chemotherapy caused Alexa’s hair to fall out, but Katie’s mother can only afford a cheap costume wig. “Wigs” is funny and provides a good example about how to support your friends, with no objectionable content and a heartfelt scene between Alexa and her father, which brings them closer together.

In the previous episode, Alexa and Katie decided to fully shave off their hair when chemotherapy causes Alexa’s hair to fall out. The two are confident about it at first but begin doubting their decision.

Their mothers suggest they go wig shopping at the mall, so that they can be more confident about going to high school. Katie’s mom tells her she has a 100-dollar limit for spending money on a wig.

When Alexa and Katie arrive at the wig store in the mall, Katie realizes the prices of the wigs are all over 100 dollars, other than some cheap costume wigs. Alexa and Katie buy matching costume wigs that are pink and blue, but Alexa buys a long brunette wig and Katie buys a $300 blonde wig with the credit card her mother gave her. At the same time, the girls try to avoid being seen at the mall by their rivals, a group of snobby girls.

When Katie returns home, her mom is on the phone with her bank arguing about a 300-dollar purchase she didn’t make. Katie confesses that she bought the wig but will return it. Katie’s too embarrassed to tell Alexa about this, however.
