Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., called for an end to violence and racism as protests erupted over the weekend.

“As we see cities burning across America following the senseless killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on Monday, there is a cry to heaven going up across America: Lord, please heal our land! It is a cry for unity, for social justice, for safety and for an end to hatred,” said King, who is on the Movieguide® Board of Reference.

“There is a unique opportunity for leaders of our families, our communities and our nation to open our stadiums, town halls, sanctuaries, and social media streams to invite people to stop panicking and stop fighting and breathe,” King said.

As much of the country seethes, King is calling for spiritual leaders to take a stand against injustice.

The “King Rules” author uses her platform to end racism and discrimination against all people, especially in the womb.

King produced ROE V. WADE, which is in post-production. King is also a frequent contributor to FOX & FRIENDS.

“Right now, here in America we are in a season of repentance and revival. It is very important for spiritual leaders to lead the way in repentance and prayer; especially with the violence erupting out of Minneapolis spreading destruction across the country like wildfire,” King said.

“In the midst of the Minneapolis crisis, President Trump has said anarchists must not be allowed to drown out the voices of peaceful protesters. Now is a time for a peaceful protest prayer and repentance,” King continued.

“I am saddened yet undaunted that a quote from my Uncle Martin is being taken out of context. The prophet said that “violence is the language of the unheard.” Some people are calling this an endorsement of violence, but nothing could be further from the truth. MLK spoke those words in defense of non-violence; he refused to promote violence as a solution to the ills of society,” King said.

King is not alone in calling for Christians to stand up against injustice.

“My heart breaks but I’m not hopeless,” said Christian rapper Lecrae. “I anticipate God raising up more people to put aside their fears and doubts. I anticipate God dealing with the evil and complacency. I pray for people who are unashamed to say ‘send me Lord, I’ll go.’ This is going to be a marathon not a sprint.”

DeVon Franklin, who has won multiple Movieguide® awards for his faith-based movies, has shared his prayers during this time on Instagram.

Christ is the only answer to this painful reality.

As King said, “America is in flux, with George Floyd, Martin Luther King Jr., COVID-19 and unborn aborted babies all whirling around in a chaotic storm. Peace be still. Anchor with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Amen.
